This Big Warriors' Champion Is Expected To Depart

Updated: Sep 10, 2023

Draymond Green is expected to opt out of his contract. Where could he go?

Draymond Green has been a vital piece to the Warriors' dynasty. He served as a key distributor and leader of the team.

However, with the Warriors already paying a supermax, a regular max, and another max they are in a tough financial situation. Draymond may be the odd one out. Here are some potential fits.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks paired their cornerstone with kyrie Irving. Both of them averaged over 26 points per game and offensively were dominant. However, the Mavericks struggled with defense. Luka and Kyrie are two poor defenders, and role players like Reggie Bullock and Dwight Powell aren't enough to make up for them.

Draymond Green provides a strong leader for any team, and with Kyrie Irving that would be a huge bonus. Draymond can anchor their defense as a small ball center, or play the forward. Draymond would fit very well as the Mavericks, similar to the Warriors are teams who have floor spacing.

Portland Trail Blazers

While the Damian Lillard saga is murky, if the Blazers decide to contend, Draymond would be a great fit for the Blazers. The Warriors' offense with Steph Curry and Draymond Green could be very similar to their offense with Damian Lillard and Draymond Green. Damian Lillard is a fantastic shooter and would benefit off of Draymond's elite screens.

The Blazers have also struggled with their defense significantly, and with them having an undersized backcourt in Anfernee Simons and Damian Lillard, a DPOY caliber defender would do wonders for them.

The Blazers still will need to trade their number three overall pick to be a contender, but currently the Blazers rank as a bottom ten defense in the entire NBA. Also, the Blazers have a very young core with almost all of their players below 25. Having a vocal presence like Draymond could do wonders for them.

With two capable guards the Blazers' offense could be similar to the Warriors, but obviously not as potent. Draymond would be a great indication for Damian Lillard that they are interested in competing. However, the Blazers still have a lot of work to do besides Draymond if they want to become a championship contender.
