This All-Pro Corner Can Help Stabilize The Eagles' Secondary
The Philadelphia Eagles continue to struggle on defense particularly in the secondary where they are banged up. The team’s general manager, Howie Roseman, is reportedly looking to improve the situation before the NFL trade deadline on October 31st. One player that has been linked to the Eagles is Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
Surtain is a highly talented cornerback who has been making waves in the NFL. He was drafted by the Broncos with the ninth overall pick in 2021 out of Alabama. He has quickly become one of their star players earning All-Rookie team honors in 2021 and he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2022. Surtain has shown the ability to shut down opposing wide receivers and make game altering interceptions.
The Eagles could certainly use a player like Surtain on their team. He would bring a lot of experience and talent to their secondary, which has been struggling with injuries this season. Their top two corners Darius Slay and James Bradberry have both missed time. The team is also thin at safety. Guys have been in and out of the lineup all season causing instability.
It’s clear that the Eagles need to do something to address their secondary issues. Quarterbacks such as Zach Wilson, Jared Goff, and Sam Howell have had good games against the Eagles. Things will only get tougher, including matchups against elite offenses like the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, and the Kansas City Chiefs. If Philly wants to stay competitive this season, they will need to make some moves before the trade deadline.
If Roseman can work out a deal with the Broncos, it could be a game-changer for the Eagles. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Broncos are willing to part ways with Surtain. He is still young and has a lot of potential, so it’s possible that they will want to hold onto him for the long term. But if the price is right, they may be willing to make a deal.
