The Real Answer At Quarterback For The Patriots

After an absolute embarrassment in Jerry's World, many fans of the once-dynastic Patriots are calling for change. Patriots quarterback Mac Jones and offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien were a duo who've been developing and tirelessly workshopping a previously broken offense all year. It collapsed on Sunday.

What has to change? What even can change at this point? Assistant head coach Joe Judge placed sweatshirts in every player's locker that read: "No one is coming; it’s up to us." But what if someone could come and save the day?

The Patriots Quarterback Answer: Kirk Cousins

While the Vikings finally picked up a win in 2023, defeating the Carolina Panthers, they are 1-3 with a quarterback in the last year of his deal. It's become somewhat clear that Minnesota is not committed to re-signing him, so he could be a strong trade target if they don't find a way to resurrect this season.

Speculations of Kirk Cousins being traded to the New York Jets have simmered as Robert Salah has indicated that the team is sticking with Zach Wilson. Cousins could still be on the block, though, and if it's not a ridiculous price, the Patriots ought to give it a look.

Why This Season Shouldn't Be Wasted

The Patriots got obliterated and didn't look good in all facets. They are also facing injuries to key players like Matt Judon and Christian Gonzalez. Despite that, they still have the potential of a playoff team and have shown they can hang with some of the best teams when at their best. 

There are question marks with their playmakers, and injuries could really limit this team, but they still have expectations. Kirk Cousins would lift the energy in the locker room and give them a real chance to compete and fight for a wild card. As much as Mac Jones has worked at improving, it just hasn't happened. This is a splash move that Belichick needs to make to salvage the season.
