The Patriots Need To Acquire This Superstar Player

Updated: Sep 10, 2023

It is reported that the Cardinals are looking to trade Deandre Hopkins. The Patriots need to pursue Hopkins.

The Patriots have had trouble finding a true wide receiver one. New England drafted Tyquan Thornton, traded for Devante Parker, and made numerous splashes in previous off-seasons, yet they still could not get a true elite receiver one. The Patriots need to acquire a proven star, and they may have the opportunity to do so.

The Cardinals Plan To Try And Trade Deandre Hopkins

Bill Belichick and Deandre Hopkins have mutual respect for each other, and Belichick tried to acquire Hopkins when he was in Houston. It is clear New England needs to make changes to their offense, and acquiring Hopkins would be a big boost for them. Every contender in the NFL now has an elite receiver, and New England will need one if they want to compete with the best teams in the league. Deandre Hopkins signed a two year $54,500,000 contract with the Cardinals. If the Patriots acquire him this off-season he will still be under contract. Hopkins is a player that will consistently create separation and produce. Currently, New England doesn’t have an elite consistent producer.

Hopkins is as elite as a receiver can get. Deandre has six seasons with over 1,000 yards receiving, and he finished with 717 yards this season, despite missing six games. Deandre Hopkins is the proven star New England needs to get. Acquiring a superstar receiver would also help Mac Jones develop well. Hopkins has produced with numerous quarterbacks in his career, and this should be a move New England pursues.

What A Trade Package Would Look Like

The Patriots can put together a competitive package, since they still have their first round picks. New England is also in the AFC, which may cause the Cardinals to be more open to trading him than to an NFC team. A first-round pick and a later round pick is likely the package. An elite receiver on the trade market will go for a first and a fifth. New England could also add one of their receivers, Devante Parker being one of them. A first and a fifth should give New England a competitive offer for getting Hopkins. While he is an elite receiver, he is also 30. This may cause his value to not be as high as it once was.

The Patriots have lacked a true elite receiver for a long time, and this is the perfect opportunity for them. As far as potential pieces to trade, their depth at the receiver position, among some others, would allow for a number of trade packages involving a player. New England fell behind on offense, and with a new offensive coordinator and an elite receiver like Hopkins, The Patriots could see themselves back as contenders. This off-season is crucial for New England. Getting Hopkins would be a great addition.
