The Oregon Ducks Got A Huge Win Over The Weekend

The Oregon Ducks football team got a huge weekend win without even playing in a game. A report came out on Sunday that star quarterback Box Nix would not go to the NFL Draft and return to the Ducks for the 2023 season.

Nix has an extra year of eligibility due to the Covid 2020 season, where everybody got an extra season because of a lack of season affected by the pandemic.

Nix was a true freshman starting quarterback at the University of Auburn from 2019-2021 but decided it was time to transfer, and he chose the Oregon Ducks for the 2022 season.

Nix had a down year in 2021 at Auburn, so nobody knew how it would go for him with a new team and a new head coach in Dan Lanning.

The 2022 Season

The season didn’t start great when they faced the defending champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, and got crushed 49-3, but the season would not reflect that loss.

The Ducks went on an eight-game winning streak and looked like one of the best four teams in the country until they met Washington and lost.

Nix got a little banged up in that game, and that was one of the enormous reasons they lost, plus the horrible 4th down play call in their territory that gave the ball back to Washington to set up the go-ahead score.

Oregon would beat the Utah Utes the following week, which was a great football team, and that is the same Utah team we saw stomp all over USC in the PAC-12 Championship Game a few weeks ago.

Oregon would lose their last game of the regular season to the rivals, the Oregon State Beavers, but they will play in the Holiday Bowl on December 30th against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

A Positive Look For 2023

Nix had a good season and was one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. He finished the regular season with 27 passing touchdowns in 3,338 passing yards. That was by far the best season he ever had in college, and Ducks fans should be excited to see this guy back next season.

Oregon will be a good football team again next season, and they should be even better in Nix under center again and another season of their head coach Lanning.

I think Nix will have a great season, and he will be invited to New York City for the Heisman Trophy Ceremony, and the Ducks might even be one of the four teams in the playoffs, but they will have to take care of business in a loaded PAC-12.
