The Most Underrated Signing Of The NBA Off-Season?
The Champs Get Even Better
After winning the NBA championship in the 2023-24 season, the Boston Celtics have quietly had one of the best off-seasons in the league. After re-signing Derrick White and Jayson Tatum, they drafted two up-and-coming rookies.
Baylor Scheierman and Anton Watson come into Boston as established college players and look to have huge potential. Watson was one of the best defenders in the NCAA last season, while Scheierman is a lights-out shooter from downtown already.
How Did They Get Him?
There are still a few high-quality players sitting in Free Agency for whatever reason, and Lonnie Walker IV was one of the best. It's unbelievable that the Boston Celtics end up being the team signing him, considering their payroll this coming off-season.
This shows that no other team was willing to offer more than the minimum for Walker, which is honestly wild. There are definitely playoff contending teams that could use his offense and energy off the bench, yet no team capitalized on the opportunity.
Boston now has an 18-man roster, not including two-way players. Walker will certainly make the 15-man roster, but his playing time will likely be very limited barring injury. The opportunity to compete for a championship is surely what convinced him to sign with Boston, as there's no way there weren't other teams offering him at least the same amount of money.
Brad Stevens strikes again, and the Celtics add yet another weapon to their loaded arsenal, as they look to repeat as champions in 2025.
