The Commanders Should Make This Head Coaching Hire
The Washington Commanders are entering a very important offseason. After firing head coach Ron Rivera, the team is looking for a new leader in the locker room who can help turn this franchise around. After missing the playoffs every year since 2020 and having a .500 or below record every year since 2016, the Commanders are looking to turn it around.
Washington has been known for its strong defense in recent years, but the team should look to hire an offensive coach, especially with possibly a new quarterback on the way. Lions' offensive coordinator Ben Johnson would be a great fit in DC.
Ben Johnson Is Just What The Commanders Need
Ben Johnson is one of the highly talked about names on the market. The 37-year-old was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2022, where his Detroit Lions had a rising offense that was key to the team's first winning season since 2017. It has been even better this season as the 12-5 Lions have had one of the best offenses in the league including reviving Jared Goff's career, the rise of the electric Amon-Ra St. Brown, and rookie superstar tight end Sam LaPorta.
Johnson Can Boost Some Of Washington's Key Weapons
The Commanders are looking for an identity. With running back Brian Robinson showing flashes of potential, receiver Terry McLaurin is an explosive weapon that needed a true quarterback, and an offensive line that needs rebuilding, Ben Johnson could help take Washington's offense to a new level. Whether he sticks to third-year quarterback Sam Howell or takes one of the many talented quarterback prospects in Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels, the future is bright in DC if they hire Ben Johnson as their new head coach.
