Texas A&M Football Win/Loss Prediction: 2022-23

Can Texas A&M finally get the payout of a national title in 2022? Or will this super team built by Jimbo Fisher need a year to mold together?

The Aggies finished the 2021 season with an 8-4 record which is respectable in the SEC West. They lost conference games that probably should’ve been wins. Fast forward to now, Jimbo Fisher and his staff brought in the “greatest recruiting class in college football history”. Considering who the other teams are in the SEC and being in the state of Texas, that is an accomplishment people need to recognize.

Now, the Aggies enter the 2022 season ranked sixth overall in the preseason rankings. This group is the best one under Fisher since he became head coach. They might be a young team but they could easily find themselves playing in the CFP or even national title. A lot of puzzle pieces have to fall perfectly for A&M to get there but they have all the steps needed to be successful behind them. Now is the time for Fisher and company to make their mark and win their first SEC title and national title. That being said, let’s take a look at the Texas A&M 2022 schedule.

Week One, Home Game vs Sam Houston

When you bring in the greatest recruiting class in college football history, your schedule is probably going to be difficult. However, a difficult schedule in say the Big Ten is far different from the SEC. The Aggies are used to having yearly games against Arkansas, Alabama and LSU. That being said, they get to open the year with an easy non-conference game. Sam Houston will just be excited to play against an SEC opponent and not be too upset to get blown out. Aggies win this one by halftime and the starters get a rest already.

Score PRediction: Texas A&M 64, Sam Houston 3

Week Two, Home Game vs Appalachian State

Non-conference play continues in week two with Appalachian State coming to town. Appalachain will be a better team than Sam Houston but not by much. Once again, the Aggies will win this one by halftime more than likely. These games will be good opportunities for the coaching staff to figure out their quarterback situation and solidify their roster before conference play begins in week four.

Score Prediction: Texas A&M 58, Appalachian State 7

Week Three, Home Game vs Miami

The Aggies then get their first big test of the season with Miami coming to town. Miami was picked 16th in the country in the preseason poll. Miami has a new coach in Mario Cristobal and should not be overlooked. In fact, if this game were on the road for the Aggies, this would have upset written all over it. But nonetheless, give me the Aggies in a close one that wakes them up in time for a rough beginning to conference play.

Score Prediction: Texas A&M 38, Miami 31

Week Four, Neutral Site vs Arkansas

Conference play begins in week four with the annual neutral site game at AT&T stadium against the Razorbacks. Last year the Razorbacks pulled off a huge shocker winning 20-10. The 2022 version of this annual game at AT&T will be yet another thriller.

However, that insane Jimbo Fisher recruiting class is going to matter here. A&M is primed for an SEC title run and maybe even a national title run. That is bad news for Arkansas but the Razorbacks will make this game competitive but ultimately fall short. Give me the Aggies to win a close one and give the Razorbacks their first loss.

Week Five, Away Game vs Mississippi State

Week five will be the first of three games on the road, first up is a trip to Starkville to take on Mississippi State. Last season in College Station, the Bulldogs upset Fisher and the Aggies. The Bulldogs are good enough to hang around for the entire game despite the talented A&M roster. However, the Aggies are going to be too good to lose this game even on the road. This will be a high-scoring shootout with the Aggies coming out victorious.

Week Six, Away Game vs Alabama

Next up on the road trip, a date with Alabama in Tuscaloosa. A&M upset the Tide last year in upset fashion with a last-second field goal to win 41-38. This year, I am sure Nick Saban has this game circled for that exact reason, a revenge game. The Aggies might have the talent and coaching staff built up but Alabama has their resume under Nick Saban for a reason. While the Aggies are going to pose a serious threat again, I like Bama to put together enough scoring drives that A&M will be fighting from behind and never catch up.

Week Seven, Away Game vs South Carolina

The final game of the road trip is a matchup against the Gamecocks who will be eager to play in the SEC this year. Unfortunately for South Carolina, this will be their fourth loss in conference play putting them at 0-4 already. The harsh reality of the SEC conference is that most of the teams above you are good enough to win bowl games and more. This is a game where the expectations for the Gamecocks to truly compete in the SEC will settle down.

Week Eight, Home Game vs Ole Miss

A&M finally returns home in week eight to host the Ole Miss Rebels. A&M is going to be a contender for a CFP spot so beating Ole Miss at home is must-win game. The Aggies did lose four all-SEC players but this being a home game is the difference here. Without Matt Corral, this Rebels offense is going to look a lot different but still keep this a competitive game until the end. With the leftover athletes at A&M, the Aggies get it done and hand the Rebels their second loss in a row.

Week Nine, Home Game vs Florida

Next up, the Florida Gators come to town for what should be another competitive SEC matchup. Every week has games that look like bowl games. Getting a chance to try and take down this talented Aggie team will be a good test for the Gators. I think Florida can hold their own for the most part, but Texas A&M will be too good on its home field and will run away with this one.

Week Ten, Away Game vs Auburn

The Aggies go back on the road in week ten to take on the Auburn Tigers. The Tigers are hurting in every way possible heading into 2022. From starting quarterbacks leaving to coaching staff leaving before they even begin their season, Auburn is in the rebuilding phase. All of that negative activity will be their downfall in 2022 and the Aggies will definetely take advantage of this game. However, I think the Tigers still have enough talent to keep this close for until the third quarter before the Aggies pull away.

Score Prediction: Texas A&M 38, Auburn 17

Week Eleven, Home Game vs UMASS

The final non-conference game for the Aggies does not come until week eleven. I will not waste your time here, Aggies win this big by halftime. UMASS has won two games in the last three seasons, this will not be a game you want to watch. This will be yet another rest game for the starters before a tough close to the season against LSU.

Score Prediction: Texas A&M 56, UMASS 0

Week Twelve, Home Game vs LSU

The final test of the 2022 season has the Brian Kelly LSU Tigers in town for a huge SEC clash to end the season. There always has to be an unneeded home loss somewhere for the Aggies and here it is in week 12. LSU is a funnel of NFL talent almost yearly and they have won nine of the last 11 meetings with the Aggies. This will only be the Aggies second loss of the season and it will depend how the other CFP spots line up for the Aggies to have a shot at that coveted SEC title and national title.

Score Prediction: LSU 35, Texas A&M 28

Final Record For Texas A&M Football In 2022-23: 10-2 (6-2)

With the SEC being a gauntlet every year, it is insane to think a 10-2 team could miss out on a conference title or CFP spot. The Aggies will either squeak into the CFP or fall just short thanks to that week 12 loss (if that happens). This roster is far too good for it to be a one-and-done year though. If a 10-2 season does not have them in the CFP, look for Jimbo Fisher’s squad to reload and be right back in it in 2023-24.
