Surprising Name Has Emerged For The Auburn Defensive Coordinator Position

Texans linebacker coach Chris Kiffin was considered the favorite for the job, but a new name has emerged as a contender.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247, D.J. Durkin, former Texas A&M DC/LB coach, is the leading candidate for the defensive coordinator position at Auburn.

Durkin will be taking over as defensive coordinator at Auburn, replacing Roberts who left for the same position at Florida. Auburn's defense ranked sixth in the SEC, averaging 23 PPG.

Durkin led the Texas A&M Aggies defense to become one of the best teams in the SEC. They had the top run defense and allowed the third-lowest yards per game in the SEC.

From a football perspective, the hiring of Durkin is a good choice because of his experience as a defensive coordinator in the SEC. However, it is important to note that Durkin has some personal baggage. During his tenure as the head coach of the Maryland Terrapins, he was involved in a scandal where a player died and there were allegations of a toxic culture.
