Sam Laporta The Next Travis Kelce?
Coming off of the best season we have ever seen in the fantasy football era of the NFL, Sam Laporta will look to solidify his spot as the top TE in dynasty and redraft in his sophomore year. Laporta had 120 targets, 86 receptions, 889 yards (10.34 yards per reception), and 10 touchdowns. Finishing the season with 10 top 8 tight end performances and just top 2 outside of the top 18 for his position, Laporta was remarkably consistent for a rookie TE.
While achieving or surpassing 10 touchdowns again will be a tall task, and he is obviously a candidate for some touchdown regression, he could very well make that up with an increased target share with 64 targets vacated by the departing Josh Reynolds, and no obvious candidates brought it to take those.
Laporta is clearly the 2nd option in a potent Lions offense. It has plenty of continuity in the offense the next few years, with Amon Ra St. Brown and Jared Goff getting big-money extensions in the offseason, as well as offense coordinator Ben Johnson turning down Head coaching opportunities to return to the motor city. Look for Laporta to continue to be a key piece in one of the best offenses in the NFL.
Our consensus projections for LaPorta in the 2024 season are 102 receptions, 1087 yards, and 8 touchdowns.
