Caleb Downs Expected To Transfer To This Big Time Program
Highly touted safety Caleb Downs has entered the transfer portal and will leave Alabama after one season. He was dominant in 2023 and is certainly drawing a ton of attention.
Ohio State has emerged as a potential suitor given their resources and ability to bring in top talent. Despite that, Downs is a Georgia native and has ties to the University of Georgia. John Talty of 247Sports reports that Georgia is the clear favorite.
Last year, 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins stated, "If you had to construct a defensive back specifically for Saban — high IQ, who tackles and covers, diagnoses quickly, is always in the right place at the right time — it's Caleb Downs."
As well as he fit with Nick Saban, it would make sense that he'd fit well with Kirby Smart as well.
Georgia hired former Alabama defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson as defensive coordinator. He has a close relationship with Downs, so it could be an easy decision for the young safety. It is expected that he will take his time to decide.
Downs had 107 total tackles in his freshman season and tallied two interceptions. He became the first freshman in program history to lead the team in tackles.
