Roman Wilson Has A Chance To Hit Early For Fantasy In 2024
The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Roman Wilson with the 84th pick overall in the third round of the NFL draft. Roman has solid draft capital for a Steelers organization with a long history of drafting and developing great wide receivers. He spent his time at Michigan well,l catching 107 passes for 1707 yards (16 yards per reception)and 20 touchdowns.
The Steelers traded away Diontae Johnson (Averaged 137 targets the last four years) to the Panthers in the off-season. You can see much of Johnson’s game in Roman Wilson. He can step in and be the number two target on the team. Russ and Fields give him solid QB play. Arthur Smith seems like the only person who can screw this up. The Steelers could definitely have a run-heavy approach, which could hurt Wilson's ceiling.
Wilson is a nuanced route runner; he can track the ball in the air to the best of his ability and has great hands. Barring another off-season addition, he has to compete with Van Jefferson, “The Muth,” and Calvin Austin to be the WR2 on the offense. He should be a PPR beast. The middle of the second in rookie drafts is the appropriate value. Look to add him on waivers in weeks 4-5.
Our consensus projections for Wilson in the 2024 season would be 63 receptions, 694 yards, and 5 touchdowns.
