Ranking The Top Quarterbacks In The NFC

When it comes to the best quarterbacks in the NFL, the quarterbacks that come to mind are all in the AFC. There does not quite seem to be a balance of power when guys like Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson are all in the same conference. However, there are still some quarterbacks in the NFC that are talented and could be difference makers for their team. Let’s take a look at the top three quarterbacks in the NFC.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles quarterback and reigning NFC Champion has rapidly improved his game since joining the league in 2020. Jalen Hurts was the MVP-runner up behind Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes and aside from his fumble in Super Bowl 57, he outplayed Mahomes in his biggest game yet. The former Alabama and Oklahoma standout player should be around for years to come after signing a five-year contract extension this offseason.

In 2022, Hurts went an impressive 14-1 as Philly’s starting quarterback. His team lost the two games he missed due to a back injury. Overall, he finished the year with 3,701 passing yards, 760 yards on the ground, and 35 total touchdowns. He added another eight touchdowns in his three postseason games. It’s exciting to see what Hurts could do in his fourth NFL season.

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has been a productive passer since becoming a full-time starter with Washington in 2015 and even more so since he joined Minnesota in 2018. In eight full seasons, Cousins only had two seasons where he had a losing record. He threw for over 4,000 yards in seven of them and had at least 25 TD passes in all eight of them.

Cousins has been consistent in the regular season but has not found postseason success yet. He has just one playoff win, which came during the 2019 season. With a talented offense around him including wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison as well as tight end T.J. Hockenson, Cousins should be productive again in 2023.

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

Much like Cousins, Prescott is a very good regular season quarterback. Since entering the league in 2016, Prescott’s regular season record as a starter is 61-36, which is a .629-win percentage. He’s also a two-time Pro Bowler and won the NFL Rookie of the Year in 2016. Prescott dominates against his NFC East rivals as he has a combined 27-7 record against the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders.

Despite throwing a career high 15 interceptions in 2022, the Cowboys still made the playoffs and advanced to the Divisional Round. The team has a good defense, running game, but could be even better if Prescott can eliminate the mistakes.

Which Other Quarterbacks Could Be Mentioned?

While the AFC still has better overall quarterback talent, there are several other mid-tier QBs in the NFC that could deserve consideration with a good season. Geno Smith led the Seattle Seahawks to the playoffs last season as did New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Another guy to watch is Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. He’s taken the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl and with a better team around him in Detroit this year, he could potentially elevate his game even more.
