Ranking Every Running Back Room In The AFC South

While young and talented quarterbacks dominate the AFC South, those quarterbacks need time to develop. In the meantime, teams will rely on the running backs to not only help carry the team but also take some of the pressure off the quarterbacks to help them develop. All of these teams have a lot of potential and young assets that will help build their franchises up for the future, but which of them has the best running back room?

4) Tennessee Titans

Tennessee came in last for the quarterbacks, and history unfortunately repeats itself with the running backs. The Titans have dominated the run game in the AFC South the past couple of years because prime Derrick Henry dominated every defender in his way.

Now that Henry is in Baltimore, it leaves just free agency signing Tony Pollard and second-year Tyjae Spears to fill the void. Both are incredibly talented, and Spears has the potential to be the best running back in the division, but the overall room is too mediocre to be put anywhere higher.

3) Jacksonville Jaguars

This may seem low for Jacksonville, but there is a reason. Travis Ettiene proved to be an elite receiving back last year, as his chemistry with quarterback Trevor Lawrence was clear from the start. Regardless of the chemistry, Jacksonville only has him backed up by the likes of Tank Bigsby, a second-year running back who disappointed in his first season.

Bigbsy is a power back who is supposed to help out Ettiene by taking some of the load off. While Ettiene is excellent, and Jacksonville overall has potential, they can't be higher than the elite duo in Houston or the best running back in the division who plays at Lucas Oil.

2) Houston Texans

If it were just based on the running back one, Houston would easily be number three or maybe even four. But because this is based on the entire running back room, the Texans jump the Jaguars and take hold of the number two spot.

The Texans signed Joe Mixon for cheap during the offseason and paired him up with the talented Dameon Pierce in the backfield. Pierce has shown flashes but hasn't emerged into the star Houston has been hoping for him to be quite yet. Being paired with Mixon should not only help Pierece's development but also form a lethal duo to help out CJ Stroud's offense.

1) Indianapolis Colts

It was tough to do, but Jonathan Taylor more than justifies the Indianapolis Colts having the number one overall slot. Despite only being backed up by Trey Sermon, who has yet to get an opportunity since leaving Ohio State for the NFL, a healthy Jonathan Taylor is one of the five best running backs in the NFL.

The last time he played an entire season, Taylor totaled over 2,000 total yards and 20 touchdowns. Taylor and Sermon have the potential to be a game-changing duo in both the rushing and receiving games as long as they can stay healthy. If they do, Indianapolis won't move from the first spot.
