Predicting The Eagles' Week Eight Divisional Showdown

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to face off against NFC East rival, the Washington Commanders, in Week Eight of the 2023 NFL season. The game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 29th at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. The Eagles are coming off their best game of the season, which was against the Miami Dolphins, while the Commanders have lost four of their last five games after a 2-0 start.

Eagles’ quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is a player to watch. He was running with an obvious limp during the game against the Dolphins and added a knee brace in the second half. Hurts said he feels “fine,” but his health will be something to keep an eye on. Hurts is backed up by Marcus Mariota who did not have a good preseason for the Eagles. Luckily, it looks like Hurts will get the opportunity to start as of now.

The Eagles Have Already Defeated the Commanders This Year

In their first meeting this season, the Eagles defeated the Commanders in an exciting 34-31 overtime thriller. Washington played Philadelphia very tough tying the game at the end of regulation. A 54-yard Jake Elliott field goal ultimately won the game for the Eagles.

This game will be a crucial one for both teams as they look to gain ground in the NFC East division. The Eagles currently hold a record of 6-1 while the Commanders are 3-4.

The Eagles have been playing well on both sides of the ball this season. They have scored an average of 26 points per game while allowing 20 points per game on defense. The team’s success can be attributed to their balanced offensive attack led by the offensive line and improved defensive play.

Meanwhile, the Commanders have struggled on both sides of the ball this season. They are averaging just 20 points per game on offense while allowing 27 points per game on defense. Quarterback Sam Howell has been inconsistent. He's thrown nine touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.

Howell has also been sacked 40 times through seven games, putting him on pace to be sacked 97 times this season. This could be a concern for the Commanders as they face an Eagles defense that has recorded 23 sacks so far this season, tied for the fifth-most in the NFL.

The matchup between the Eagles and Commanders is shaping up to be an exciting one. With both teams looking to make a statement in their division, it will be interesting to see how things play out on Sunday. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to game day!

Prediction: Eagles 26 Commanders 17

As long as the Eagles have a healthy Jalen Hurts, they should be able to take care of business. Philly has played Washington better on the road than at home over the last couple of years.
