Predicting The Miami Dolphins 2024 Record Game-By-Game
The Miami Dolphins are looking to make a Super Bowl run in 2024. With a loaded offense that includes Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Odell Beckham Jr., the Phins are trying to win their third championship and their first since 1974.
Miami has the eighth easiest strength of schedule this season, based on opponent wins last year. Could that help push them to a long playoff run? Here's a look at each opponent and a prediction for all 17 Dolphins games this season.
Week One: Vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Miami Dolphins start the 2024 campaign at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars. I expect the Jags to be about the same as last season. They'll win a few games they probably shouldn't, and they'll lose a few they should win. Mike McDaniel will have his guys fired up and ready to go in Week One. Miami gets a close win to begin the season.
Dolphins Record: 1-0
Week Two: Vs. Buffalo Bills (TNF)
Buffalo has won four straight against the Dolphins. Quarterback Josh Allen is 10-2 when facing Miami and has thrown for over 300 yards in the last four regular-season meetings. While the Bills are still a good football team, there's no doubt that Stefon Diggs has left a hole in their offense. I have the Dolphins winning their first AFC East matchup of the season.
Dolphins Record: 2-0
Week Three: At Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are the first of five NFC opponents for the Dolphins in 2024. Seattle won the last meeting with Miami back in 2020. A lot has changed since that game, including the starting quarterbacks for each team. I believe the Dolphins roster is more talented, and they'll get a win despite playing in a challenging road environment.
Dolphins Record: 3-0
Week Four: Vs. Tennessee Titans (MNF)
The Dolphins close the season's opening month on Monday Night Football against the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee upset Miami last season thanks to a late Derrick Henry rushing touchdown. Plenty has changed in the Titans organization since that game, including moving on from head coach Mike Vrabel and former starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Henry also signed with the Baltimore Ravens this off-season. Tennessee might be the worst team in the league, and the Dolphins get an easy win at home in prime time.
Dolphins Record: 4-0
Week Five: At New England Patriots
Who knows if Drake Maye or Jacoby Brissett will be the starting quarterback for New England this early in the season, but I don't think it matters. I could see Bradley Chubb getting pressure on whoever's behind center for the Pats, and Miami wins their fifth straight game.
Dolphins Record: 5-0
Week Six: BYE Week
This is an early BYE week for Miami. The club got rest during Week 10 last year and Week 11 the season prior. This break gives the 'Phins plenty of time to prepare for their next opponent, but I would guess they'd prefer to have the BYE later in the season, especially considering Tua's injury history.
Week Seven: At Indianapolis Colts
It could be an absolute shootout if Anthony Richardson is healthy for this game. It's been three years since the Colts and Dolphins faced off. Indianapolis won that game 27-17 thanks to two touchdowns from Mo Alie-Cox. Given McDaniel will have two weeks to prepare for this game, I'm going to pick Miami in a high-scoring game.
Dolphins Record: 6-0
Week Eight: Vs. Arizona Cardinals
Kyle Murray had a phenomenal game in 2020 against the Miami Dolphins, throwing for 248 yards and three touchdowns. He added another 106 yards and a score on the ground. Although the Cardinals should be better than they were a year ago, Miami is the better team. The Dolphins win this one by a field goal.
Dolphins Record: 7-0
Week Nine: At Buffalo Bills
It's a little disappointing that both Bills vs. Dolphins matchups are out of the way by early November, as they could be competing for the division late in the season. While Miami won the first meeting against the Bills, Buffalo gets the best of them here, ending a seven-game Dolphins winning streak.
Dolphins Record: 7-1
Week 10: At Los Angeles Rams (MNF)
The Rams continue to build an excellent young core around veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, but for the first time in 10 years, Los Angeles will be without three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. Expect the Rams to put up a fight on Monday Night Football, but the Dolphins will win in the final minute.
Dolphins Record: 8-1
Week 11: Vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Miami beat Las Vegas at home last season. Tua completed 28-of-39 passes in the game for 325 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Tyreek Hill was responsible for 146 passing yards and caught six passes for a first down. The Raiders aren't a great team, and Miami gets an easy win at home.
Dolphins Record: 9-1
Week 12: Vs. New England Patriots
The Dolphins have won six of the last seven games against the Patriots, including both in last year's two-game series. Miami thumped the Pats at home in 2023, winning 31-17. They'll do that again in this game, thanks to a couple of scores from Tyreek Hill. This would be Miami's 10th win of the 2024 NFL season.
Dolphins Record: 10-1
Week 13: At Green Bay Packers (TNF)
This has loss written all over it for the Miami Dolphins. It's a short week, on the road at Lambeau Fields in late November. The weather could be a factor in this game, which the Dolphins have struggled with in recent years. Jordan Love and the Packers hand Miami its second loss of the year.
Miami Dolphins: 10-2
Week 14: Vs. New York Jets
Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is 3-1 against the Miami Dolphins in his career, although this would be his first time playing them as a member of the New York Jets. New York's defense will make this a challenging game for Tua and the offense, but Miami wins.
Dolphins Record: 11-2
Week 15: At Houston Texans
Following a win over the New York Jets, Miami travels to Houston to take on C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans. This will be the first time Stroud faces the Dolphins. Houston is coming off a Thursday Night Football game the week before, allowing them some rest and more time to prepare for Miami. The Dolphins lose a close one on the road.
Dolphins Record: 11-3
Week 16: Vs. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers might have the most talented roster in the NFL this year, and they'll be fighting to get back to the championship game. Mike McDaniel will be coaching against the team he was with before his gig with the Dolphins. In this case, the teacher (Kyle Shanahan) beats the student.
Dolphins Record: 11-4
Week 17: At Cleveland Browns
Miami beat Cleveland 39-17 when the two met in 2022, but I don't believe the same will happen this time. The Browns get a 'mini-bye' thanks to a Thursday Night Football game in Week 16, allowing them time to heal their star players and put together a real plan to defeat the Dolphins.
Dolphins Record: 11-5
Week 18: At New York Jets
Miami beat New York in their first meeting this season, and New York gets some revenge in the final regular season game of the campaign. Dolphins' fans will be distraught as the team drops their final four games of the season, and vibes will be down as they enter the playoffs. The 'Phins finish the season with an 11-6 record, second in the AFC East and fifth in the conference.
