One 2024 Draft Target For Every AFC West Team

There Is A Clear King In The AFC West

Amongst the AFC West lies a precise king far above the caliber of any other in the division: The Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have dominated the NFL over the past few seasons, winning back-to-back Super Bowls and three since Super Bowl 54. However, the Chargers, Broncos, and Raiders have all tried to defeat them but have yet to be able to do so consistently.

The Broncos never put it together after trading a haul for Russell Wilson, The Raiders seem to be rebuilding, and the Chargers have never had the right mixture of talent and experience to take down the Chiefs. One thing is clear, though: if they want to, they will need to look at the draft. Here is one player for each team they should draft to help them battle against Mahomes and a pick for the Chiefs to help keep their crown safe.

Los Angeles Chargers: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

We may see the Chargers move back in this draft, but until then, they'll take the stud offensive lineman out of Notre Dame. Despite having Rashawn Slater locked up for the future on one side, the other edge for the Chargers has been a problem that has caused issues for Justin Herbert. Alt is steady and an NFL-ready player.

Not to mention, Jim Harbaugh thrived at Michigan due to building the best offensive line in the country for the past two seasons. It would lead us to think that he would want to replicate this so that the Chargers could play his way of football. While they move back and grab a different tackle when the draft comes, for now, they draft Joe Alt to play Harbaugh's style of football.

Denver Broncos: JJ McCarthy, QB, Michigan

That's right. Jim Harbaugh faces his former protege two times a year. Russell Wilson's departure left a gaping space at the quarterback position, and the Broncos need to fill it as soon as possible. Rumors have swirled that McCarthy is higher on most NFL teams' boards than Michael Penix Jr. or Bo Nix.

This would lead us to believe that once Williams, Daniels, and Maye are all gone, McCarthy will be off the board next. Not to mention, Sean Payton built around Drew Brees for over a decade and was consistently a premier team in the league. McCarthy and Brees have a lot of similarities regarding their accuracy and ability to manage a game, something that Payton would love to utilize.

Las Vegas Raiders: Chop Robinson, Edge, Penn State

Antonio Pierce more than deservingly got the job as head coach down in Vegas, and he will want to make his mark. Outside of Davante Adams, Maxx Crosby is easily the most talented player on the team, as he has dominated on the edge for the past few seasons. Pierce will want to be aggressive and get a guy who can take on the franchise quarterback of their in-division rivals.

Robinson is an insane athlete and had arguably one of the best combines after displaying his insane athleticism. With the addition of Christian Wilkins on a four-year deal, the Raiders could strengthen their defensive line even more by adding Chop. Next to Crosby and Wilkins, this would be a lethal trio for Pierce looking to take down Mahomes, Herbert, and (hypothetically) McCarthy.

Kansas City Chiefs: Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State

The defending Super Bowl champions want to keep it that way, and drafting receivers has been something they've excelled in. The Chiefs draft guys who fit their system, and while he is not a speedster, Coleman would fit their system as a very different kind of target. Rashee Rice will enter his second year, and Travis Kelce is aging.

The Chiefs would want to add another monster target who differs from those guys in style. Rice is fast and shifty and gains many yards after the catch, while Kelce is a jack of all trades that dominates the middle of the field with his route running and speed. Coleman is a jump-ball receiver who can climb the ladder and make tough catches over defenders. If Kansas City adds another significant wrinkle to this offense, it might worsen for the league.
