Ohio State Is Not In A Good Spot Now After ESPN Released Their Top 25 Power Rankings
Updated: Jun 28, 2023
Everyone just loves a top 25 college football ranking on May 3rd, and that’s exactly what ESPN gave us. I couldn’t care less about the 25 teams in this because we don’t play football for another four months, but they seem to be out on the Ohio State Buckeyes after spring ball.
ESPN previously had Ohio State ranked at number two right behind Georgia, but they dropped the Buckeyes to number five after spring practices.
The four teams in front of Ohio State are Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, and USC. I understand Georgia and Michigan being in front of them but putting Florida State and USC ahead of Ohio State is a total joke.
Give Ohio State Some Credit
Florida State won ten games for the first time since 2016, and we rank them over Ohio State. I think Florida State will be a good team again this season but putting them at number three is just a little crazy.
Don’t get me started with USC. I get that they have the best offensive-minded head coach in college football in Lincoln Riley and the best quarterback in Caleb Williams, but I have watched this script with Riley play out every single year. Have the best quarterback in the sport and get blown out of the building in big-time games.
I understand the Buckeyes lost their quarterback C.J. Stroud, but the team is loaded. They need to fill some offensive line spots, but when you have Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, Julian Fleming, TreVeyon Henderson, and a fully loaded defense I don’t care who is playing quarterback.
Give me Ohio State over Florida State and USC any day of the week. Ohio State is going to be very talented this year. The team got better at almost every single position this offseason besides quarterback but guess what college football is not the NFL? You don’t have to have one of the best quarterbacks in college football to win a title.
Alabama won a title with Jake Coker playing quarterback so I think Kyle McCord will put this team in a great position to succeed.
Ohio State should probably be third on this list, and if you want to put Alabama over them, who is for some reason ranked sixth is perfectly fine, but no way they should be sitting at five.
