NFC Offensive Player Of The Month: Jalen Hurts

After leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 3-0 record as well as setting a franchise record 1,083 all purpose yards through the first three games of the season, quarterback Jalen Hurts has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for the month of September. Hurts is the first Eagle to win the award since Carson Wentz did all the way back in 2017.

After his first five passes of the season were incomplete, the third year quarterback has been nearly flawless throwing for 916 yards, four touchdowns and only one interception while completing 67.3% of his passes. Additionally, Hurts has added 167 yards and three scores on the ground and is the only player in the NFC to have 1,000 yards this early in the season.

Week One Versus The Detroit Lions

The offense began slow with Hurts starting the game 0-5 on pass attempts but quickly picked up the pace. Jalen Hurts finished the game with 333 total yards and a rushing score in a 38-35 victory against the Lions.

Week Two Versus The Minnesota Vikings

This was the first primetime game and boy did Hurts shine bright. Hurts started the game 11-11 for 151 yards and a touchdown. The hot play continued with Hurts finishing the game with 390 total yards and three scores and completed a career high 83.9% of passes.

Week Three Versus The Washington Commanders

Another hot start for Hurts. In the first half Hurts completed 18 of 27 pass attempts for 279 yards and three touchdowns. Hurts kept the momentum rolling in the second half finishing the game with a stat line of 22-35 pass attempts (62.9%), 340 passing yards and three touchdowns. This was Hurts third straight game with atleast 300 total yards.

MVP?

While it is only three games, the MVP conversation has to start. We are almost a quarter of the way through the season and all signs point to the MVP being one of Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson. It would be Jackson’s second MVP award and the first for Hurts or Allen. But how does the Eagles quarterback stack up with them?

Top-3 MVP Candidates Stats Through 3 Games

If and when Jalen Hurts hits ‘his standard’ of play there will certainly be another Offensive Player of the Month award and he will cement himself as a MVP finalist.
