Mississippi State Hires A New Head Coach After The Sad and Sudden Passing Of Mike Leach
It was a sad day in Starkville, Mississippi, and the college football world on Tuesday when the Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach died of complications of a heart condition.
Leach’s sad and tragic passing shocked everyone; football was the last thing on everyone’s mind. The Bulldogs promoted defensive coordinator Zach Arnett to interim head coach and will coach the team in the ReliaQuest Bowl Vs. Illinois on January 2nd. The team will still play their bowl game because they said that is what coach leach would want them to do.
Who Is Zach Arnett
ESPN’S College Football writer Pete Thamel reported on Wednesday that Mississippi State and Zach Arnett had reached a four-year deal to make him the program’s new head coach.

They want it to be comfortable for the players and help them transition from the tragic passing of Leach, and Arnett has been with the program for the last three seasons.
The move was made quickly to stabilize the program and support the players after the sudden death of coach Mike Leach. Arnett has been a successful defensive coordinator and stayed loyal to MSU despite multiple offers from higher-profile programs the last few years. — Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) December 14, 2022
Arnett spent nine seasons coaching different roles at San Diego State and was hired by Leach in 2020 to be the defensive coordinator for the Bulldogs.
Arnett is the right guy for the job to help transition this team through a rough time. Football is not essential to anyone in the program right now, but when they get back to playing football, he will be critical in helping this team move forward.
