Michael Carter Has Fallen Further Down The Depth Chart
After a solid rookie season in 2021, Carter was replaced in New York by Breece Hall, the Jets' second-rounder in 2022, and over the past 2 seasons, Michael Carter was phased out of the offense. Carter was released last season and was claimed by the Cardinals, and Carter has a clear role in the Cardinals' offense.
Last season, James Conner was great, but the Cardinals always used a different back on third downs to keep Conner fresh, and Carter fills that role perfectly. With that being said, Carter is not a player to target in drafts as he most likely won’t be more than a rotational third-down back for the Cardinals, with Trey Benson being the primary backup for Conner. Carter will be more useful for NFL football this season than for fantasy football.
Our consensus projections for Carter in the 2024 season are 35 carries for 158 yards and 1 rushing touchdown. As well as 5 receptions, 26 yards, and 0 touchdowns.
