Mary Earps, Where Will You Go Next?

Happy January transfer window everyone! We have already seen many notable transfers in the first half of this month within the WSL. Kristie Mewis transferred from the NJ/NY Gotham to West Ham United. West Ham has also received an Aussie with Katrina “Mini” Gorry, who is transferring from Vittsjö GIK. As West Ham tries to exit their relegation battle during this transfer window, many fans are looking at Mary Earps and where she might end up after the window has closed.

The Marvelous Mary Earps

The English goalie, who plays for Manchester United, has not resigned her contract. She has been making quite a name for herself as one of the best women’s goalkeepers. She won the Euros with England in 2022 and came in second place in the Women’s World Cup. At said World Cup, she also won the Golden Glove. Countless awards and a Ballon d’Or nomination have cemented her as one of the best goalkeepers of our time, so who wants her?

Real Madrid

Real Madrid might make an offer for Mary Earps. This elite team in Spain could do good with a better goalie. It does not help that their league rivals are FC Barcelona, currently the best team in women’s football. During this season’s El Clasico, Barcelona embarrassed Madrid by handing them a 5-0 loss. Real Madrid has loads of offensive talent but could use better defense. A new goalie might be able to put them atop their league.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain is also in the hunt for Mary Earps. Another very notable team in the world of women’s football, this team is located in France. They are also in the same boat as Real Madrid, as their league rivals are better than them. Olympique Lyonnais are currently sitting 11 points behind PSG. Many of their losses are one-point losses that are easily avoidable. If they want to win the league, Mary Earps could solve their problems.

The Arsenal?

As an Arsenal fan, seeing Mary Earps as a Gunner would be amazing. Arsenal’s current goalkeeper is Munela Zinsberger. Recently, she has been in a noticeable slump, and with key players returning from injury, Arsenal could be in contention for a title run if they stop conceding so many goals.

Mary Earps would have a warm welcome to North London as she would be playing with her former teammate, Alessia Russo. She would also remain in England while her other suitors are elsewhere. I would love to see Mary Earps in North London, but wherever she ends up, I hope the management and the fans treat her with the respect she deserves.
