Man City And Real Madrid Kick Off Champions League QFs With A Battle

After Manchester City and Real Madrid were drawn against each other for the Champions League Quarter-Final, fans knew that the tie promised fireworks. Both of the teams are considered to be the best in the world, with endless amounts of quality in every position amongst each team.

Bernardo Silva got Manchester City started in the second minute after he scored from a freekick awarded to City after Jack Grealish was fouled high up the pitch. Bernardo Silva shot the ball right around the 1-man wall that Madrid had set up, and snuck it in by the near post.

Madrid made sure to not waste any time, controlling the possession quickly after the goal they had conceded. With the possession they were able to attack Manchester City in counterattacks, using their speedy forwards to cause damage to the Manchester City defense. After continuous pressure, Madrid would find their equalizer through a deflected shot from Eduardo Camavinga. The shot deflected unluckily off of City defender Ruben Dias, and found its way in the back of the net.

2 minutes after Madrid equalized, they would find the goal to give them the league before halftime. In the 14th minute, Rodrygo found himself amid a counterattack where he drove at the Manchester City defense, before calmly slotting an outside-the-foot shot right into the net, giving Madrid their well-earned lead.

Neither team made any changes to start the second half, but City looked more motivated and focused than in the first half. This allowed them to tie the game in the 66th minute with a beautiful curling shot from the edge of the box from Phil Foden. That goal put Manchester City on the front foot, with Josko Gvardiol scoring in similar fashion to Foden in the 71st minute to give City the lead yet again.

The game was not over there, although Manchester City seemed to be in control and running away with the game, Real Madrid was not going to go down without a fight. In the 79th minute, Federico Valverde finds himself at the end of a beautiful cross from Vinicius Junior which he then volleys with incredible technique into the bottom right corner of the Manchester City goal to put the game level yet again.

The game ultimately ended in an emphatic draw, with everything left to play for next week in the second leg at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester England.
