Luke Schoonmaker Fighting For His Roster Spot
Luke Schoonmaker was taken in the second round of the 2023 draft by the Cowboys. In his rookie season, he played only 8 games after suffering multiple injuries. He has also been forced to miss offseason workouts due to a hamstring injury.
Not only has his lack of availability hurt his capital, but Jake Ferguson emerged last year and looks to be the surefire starter for the Cowboys next season. Schoonmaker is not even guaranteed the backup role, as he will fight for more reps with Peyton Hendershot.
Dallas took Shoonmaker before Ferguson, but he was just outplayed on a regular basis. He had one top-ten finish at tight end, but don't let that fool you. He was TE8 and only scored 11.3 points.
In redraft leagues, Schoonmaker should be avoided entirely. However, in dynasty, he could still be a decent hold, as the Cowboys did spend a high capital draft pick on the young Tight End.
Our consensus projections for Schoonmaker in the 2024 season are 12 receptions, 106 yards, and 1 touchdowns.
