Lebron Or Curry: Who’s Legacy Needs A Fifth Ring More & Why
Updated: Jun 14, 2023
The Los Angeles Lakers took Game One Tuesday Night in their second-round matchup against the Warriors, and this thing could be a fun one for the ages. This series features two of the best players in the NBA over the past decade, Steph Curry and Lebron James, and both are looking to win their fifth ring.
Lebron James
James is looked at as one of the best players to ever live and many even think he’s the best or second behind Michael Jordan. James has been the greatest player of all time conversation for a while now, and that’s even before he won his fourth ring almost three seasons ago.
Many will never put James as their greatest player of all time, and it doesn’t matter if he goes on to win 70 rings. Many people and I’m talking about the NBA media can’t get over him changing teams and creating super teams to win and having a 4-6 NBA finals record.
Steph Curry
For one Steph Curry winning a fifth ring would do a lot to his legacy. It would tie him in rings with Magic Johnson, who many believe is the best point guard of all time.
Curry is known as the best shooter to ever play the game, but many people knock him for Kevin Durant joining Golden State and winning two rings. Let’s remember something Curry and the Warriors won the 2015 Finals and had the best record in the history of the NBA at 73-9 in 2016 and up 3-1 in the NBA Finals until Lebron James and Kyrie Irving put on the best three-game stretch ever by a duo in NBA history.
Kevin Durant came to town after the 2016 finals, and they went on to win back-to-back rings with him then lost the 2019 NBA finals to the Raptors when Durant tore his Achilles and Klay Thompson tore his ACL. Let’s just talk about what Durant has done since leaving Golden State oh wait nothing. He joined the Brooklyn Nets, did nothing there asked to be traded went to Phoenix, and will be sitting at home in about a week.
Curry went on to win another title last season and put his name on the greatest of all-time list.
A fifth ring would have to put him in the top ten of the greatest players ever, and there would be no arguing it.
That would leave Curry with five NBA titles, most likely two NBA finals MVPs because he would have to win it to win the title, seven NBA finals appearances, two NBA MVPs, two-time scoring leader, a nine-time All-Star with a few more appearances to come and the most three-pointers in NBA history. Curry went from struggling a little bit and dealing with some injuries in his first four seasons, but his hard work and dedication have made him one of the best basketball players we have ever seen.
