Kirk Cousins Has Signed With His Next NFL Team
After weeks of speculation, quarterback Kirk Cousins has signed with the Atlanta Falcons. This will be his third NFL team. The 35-year-old has spent the last six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and is coming off an Achilles injury.
DEAL DETAILS: 4-years, $180 million ($100 million guaranteed), $45 million per year
Why Cousins To Atlanta Makes Sense
The Atlanta Falcons' biggest need is quarterback, and Cousins is the best player available for that position this off-season. Adding him to an offense with Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson should provide for an entertaining 2024 season.
There are many expectations for the Falcons to produce winning results this year. It was a similar situation when Kirk signed with Minnesota. The team had gone to the NFC Championship game the season before, and Cousins was supposed to be the final piece to a Super Bowl-winning roster. While the Vikings never got close to that position with Cousins, he'll get another shot at success in Atlanta.
Cousins NFL Career
Kirk has thrown over 39,400 yards and 270 touchdowns during his 12-year NFL career. He has led his team to the post-season on four occasions. Washington made the playoffs in 2012 and 2015, while Cousins led the Minnesota Vikings to the post-season in 2019 and 2022. His lone playoff victory was in 2019 over the New Orleans Saints.
What's Next For The Vikings?
With Cousins's departure, it seems likely that the Vikings will turn to the NFL Draft as they search for their next franchise quarterback. The team has been linked to J.J. McCarthy, who will likely be available on pick 11. McCarthy threw for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and four interceptions last season at Michigan.
