Jermaine Burton Could Be A Stud Early For Fantasy
The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Jermaine Burton with the 80th overall pick in the third round. Burton had some off-the-field issues that caused him to fall in the NFL Draft, which could have been the best thing to happen to him.
Landing on, the Bengals are tied to Joe Burrow with Tyler Boyd (98 targets) in Tennessee and a disgruntled Tee Higgins (playing on the franchise tag). Ja'Marr Chase will do his thing, but Burton has every opportunity to produce the way he did in college: 132 receptions, 2376 yards (18 yards per reception), and 23 touchdowns.
He produced every year but still hasn’t reached his ceiling in this offense (a bounce-back candidate). He projects to play on the outside and stretch the field for Joe Friggin Burrow. which can cause Chase to move into the slot more often, which can open up the whole offense.
If Higgins stays, he can be a big play flex option for now. If Higgins plays elsewhere this season or in the near future, Burton could vault to a boom-bust WR2. He should be prioritized in the middle of the second round and on in dynasty rookie drafts. He should definitely be considered for a bench spot in redraft leagues.
Our consensus projections for Burton for the 2024 season are 51 receptions, 831 yards, 4 touchdowns through the air, carries for yards, and a rushing touchdown.
