Jacob Fatu's Brutal Revenge Against Roman Reigns!
Roman Reigns made his epic return at SummerSlam 2024 by sabotaging Solo Sikoa's match against Cody Rhodes. During Friday's episode of Smackdown, Roman Reigns was on the receiving end of the sabotage.
Still injured from SummerSlam, Jacob Fatu stormed into the ring during Roman Reigns' fight against the Bloodline to keep the ula fala in Solo Sikoa's possession... and get revenge.
For better or worse, August 16, 2024, is a day that WWE fans will never forget.
This day began with the devastating news that Afa Anoa'i- WWE Hall of Famer, one-half of the Wild Samoans Tag Team, and Roman Reigns' uncle- had passed away. This passing occurred only two months after Sika Anoa'i- Afa's younger brother, the other half of the Wild Samoans, and Roman Reigns' father- passed away in June.
Later on what was surely a difficult day for Reigns, "WWE teased a showdown between Solo Sikoa and Roman Reigns through a series of tense backstage vignettes." During these vignettes, Solo Sikoa declared that he would only acknowledge Reigns as the Tribal Chief if Reigns reclaimed the ula fala- the sacred Samoan necklace- from him.
On last week's episode of WWE Smackdown, Reigns made his "epic babyface return" by taking out every member of the Bloodline with "brutal ease" Despite this brutal defeat, the Bloodline was able to get the ula fala away from Reigns and back to Solo. Solo taunted Reigns with the ula fala, declaring "I'm the Chief now."
On Friday night, Roman Reigns entered the ring, overpowered Solo Sikoa and Tonga Loa, and reclaimed the ula fala. CageSideSeats reports "as he placed it around his neck, fans leaped in excitement. Meanwhile, Reigns took a moment to breathe a sigh of relief after seemingly regaining his kingdom."
This glorious moment was cut short by Jacob Fatu, who stormed into the ring "still wearing a boot from his reported SummerSlam injury" and "delivered a devastating attack that left Reigns stunned." With the Original Tribal Chief incapacitated, Fatu, Tonga, and Sikoa combined forces to deliver a powerbomb with enough force to send Reigns through the announcing desk! Tonga retrieved the ula fala and put it back around Sikoa's neck.
This episode of Smackdown ended with the victorious Bloodline standing over Reigns as he writhed in pain. CageSideSeats writes that this ending "rivaled the iconic scene of Batman left broken by Bane."
Fans' reactions were almost as riveting as the fight itself.
Some fans believe that Reigns let his power go to his head during his reign as the Tribal Chief and are glad to see him finally get what he deserves.
Other fans believe that this defeat will be a turning point for Reigns and that, moving forward, he will begin making amends.
Others are just in awe of the fact that Jacob Fatu defeated Roman Reigns with an injured leg.
Every sports fan will have their own opinion about Jacob Fatu's ambush, but everyone can agree that Friday's episode of Smackdown is one to remember.
