Taking A Deeper Look At The Giants Season

So far, in the 2022 season, the Giants have eight of Big Blue’s nine games that have been decided by one score (eight points or less). The Giants are 4-1 at home, the first time they’ve won more than three games in MetLife since they were 7-1 in 2016.

The Giants are 4-0 this season against AFC teams. This is their longest winning streak in interconference games since they won seven in a row from 2010-12 and the first season in which they have won four games against AFC opponents since 2011. They are the first NFC East team to win four consecutive games against AFC teams since the 2016 Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants did not commit an offensive turnover for the third consecutive game. They did lose two fumbles on punt returns in Seattle two weeks ago. The Giants have had no offensive giveaways this season in five of their nine games.

Giants Players Key Moments & Stats

Daniel Jones’ completion percentage of 76.5 is the third highest of his career. Each of the top three was in games this season: 85.0 at Tennessee on Sept. 11 (17 of 21) and 77.8 vs. Green Bay in London on Oct. 9th, 2022 (21 of 27).

D.J. has not thrown an interception in six consecutive games and 145 straight passes, the second-longest streak of his career. From Nov. 2, 2020, to Jan. 3, 2021, Jones threw a career-best 177 consecutive passes without an interception. He threw a season-high two touchdown passes for the third time this season (also at Tennessee and vs. Baltimore).

Saquon Barkley finished with a career-high 35 carries for 152 yards, including a two-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The 35 carries are the most by a Giants back since Dec. 5, 1999, when Joe Montgomery had 38 (for 111 yards) in a victory against the Jets. Barkley’s previous career high was 31 rushing attempts (for 146 yards) vs. Chicago on Oct. 2.

Wide Receiver Darius Slayton and tight end Tanner Hudson each had a team-high three receptions. Slayton led the Giants with 95 receiving yards, his highest total since he had 129 at Dallas on Oct. 22, 2020.

Slayton’s touchdown was his second of the season and 15th of his career; he scored on a 32-yard reception at Jacksonville on Oct. 23. The 54-yard catch was the second-longest of Slayton’s four-year career. He scored a 55-yard touchdown on a throw from Eli Manning at Philadelphia on Dec. 9th, 2019.

Isaiah Hodgins claimed off waivers from Buffalo during the bye week, caught two passes for 41 yards, including a 26-yarder, in his Giants debut. Wan’Dale Robinson had two receptions for 20 yards but lost five yards on his first career rushing attempt.

Lawrence Cager scored his first career touchdown on his third reception in his sixth game and second with the Giants, each as a practice squad elevation. The catch was Cager’s first since he had two receptions for the Jets in his NFL debut on Oct. 27th, 2020, at Indianapolis.

Rookie safety Dane Belton’s interception was the defense’s second red zone takeaway in a row. On the second play of the quarter, Leonard Williams forced a fumble by rookie running back Dameon Pierce that was recovered by Jaylon Smith. Safety Jason Pinnock recorded the first 1.5 sacks of his career, including a 10-yard takedown of Mills on Houston’s final offensive play.

Defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux started his first game as a G-Men in his first appearance since the victory against Chicago on Oct. 2nd, when he injured his ankle. The start was the third of his three-year career. Mondeaux started two games for Pittsburgh in 2021.

Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson gained two yards on two returns as he temporarily replaced Richie James as the Giants’ punt returner. Jackson had last returned punts for Tennessee at Jacksonville on Sept. 19th, 2019. He entered the game with an 8.8-yard career average on 53 returns, all of them from 2017-19 with the Titans. James had 15 of the Giants’ 17 punt returns entering the game but lost two fumbles at Seattle on Oct. 30. However, he was re-installed as the returner when Houston punted late in the second quarter. Jackson returned on the next punt.

With their best nine-game record since they were 8-1 in 2008, it’s added excitement for Big Blue fandom. Let’s all tune in for week 11’s match-up against the Lions at Metlife Stadium for another exciting game.

The Lions have won two straight games, but the Giants are amidst a resurgent season, so watch out Detroit…New York is aiming for the “W.” And that’s…”The Lex Of It”
