Fantasy Football Scam Artists: Week 1

Which Players scammed you into starting them this week?

Fantasy Football is back in full swing and that only means one thing. Some players not only failed to meet their projections but may already make you regret drafting them.

Quarterback:

Joe Burrow:

Burrow returns following his injury plagued 2023 campaign and he performs as no one expected. Burrow finished with 8.06 points this week against a New England defense he was suspected to torch. Don't believe Burrow will be on this list long but if his wrist really did effect his future he could be on a lot of benches from here on out

Caleb Williams:

One of the most highly anticipated rookie QBs made his fantasy debut this sunday. Caleb may not have seen this list if Keenan Allen had held on to a touchdown late in the 2nd quarter. Caleb went 14/29 for 93 yards and didnt offer much rushing upside. The ceiling for Williams is high but he should be benched until he proves he can be a every week starter.

Aaron Rodgers:

Well, his Achilles didn't snap. That's probably the only bright side to Rodgers' return. He did find Allen Lazard for a score late but other than that Rodgers underperformed. He did face one of the best defenses in the NFL and looked to be in sync with Garrett Wilson. Rodgers week to week outlook should depend on matchups for now but he could be back to his old ways soon.

Running Backs:

D'andre Swift

An all-around disappointing offensive day in Chicago may be headlined by Swifts lack of production. Expected to have a good year as the lead back for the Bears Swift totaled only 5 fantasy points. With Caleb improving week by week look for Swift to do the same as the passing game will open up the run game for more big plays.

Zahmir White

No one quite knew what to expect from White as he took over as the Raiders RB1 but Alexander Mattison vulturing TDs was not one of them. White wasn't very good even against a horrific run defense in the Chargers. Keep White on the bench for now until he can prove he is going to be the bell cow every-down back for the Raiders

Najee Harris

New season same story for Najee. The concern isn't with him splitting with Jaylen Warren. It's that Cordarrelle Patterson also got touches. Najee produced 8.9 fantasy points this week in PPR, but will be touchdown-reliant to get him in the double digits every week. With Fields starting his TD chances go down significantly and shipping Najee somewhere else may be in your favor.

Wide Receivers:

Marvin Harrison Jr.

Marvin Harrison is not on this list because he was bad. He was bad because of Kylers refusal to throw him the ball in certain situations. Granted, Harrison did have two drops but late in the game with a minute left was wide open for a potential game-winning TD and Kyler never saw him. Marvin Harrison probably won't reappear on this list again as this is his absolute floor for performances this year.

Drake London

Is anyone surprised at this point?? Drake London is not going to be productive when you start him. The second you bench him he's going to score 25+ points. London is a scary play each week and until Kirk Cousins proves he's going to feed him, he can't be trusted. Trading London for all you can get may be the best move.

Amari Cooper

Similar to Marvin Harrison Jr., Amari was not all to blame. He did have 9 targets which is promising but because of Deshaun Watson's poor accuracy, he struggled to convert those into points. He is at fault for salvaging his bad day by dropping a wide-open TD pass that went off his fingers. Cooper will be up and down but will become more consistent as the season goes on.

Terry Mclaurin

Going into the year, Terry looked to be a prime target for rookie Jayden Daniels. Daniels didn't throw the ball to Terry nearly enough resulting in 3.7 points from McLaurin. The scary part is he only had 4 total targets. If Terry continues to trend down you have to look to trade him for something of value. There is optimism in Terry: as Daniels improves, his fantasy season should improve.

Tight Ends:

All Tight Ends except Isiah Likely

If you had Likely and started him congratulations. For everyone else, Tight Ends were worthless this week. Brock Bowers finished in third in PPR points and had 11.8. This won't continue, stick to the guy you believe in they'll get more involved but all of them disappointed this week. Kyle Pitts was the only Tight End drafted in the first 8 at the position who finished top 5 this week. Hopefully, this doesn't continue all year.
