Fantasy Football – Fly Eagles Nation Edition #1
In this series, we will outline fantasy football advice as it relates to our beloved Eagles. Every week we will go through each player at the following positions: QB, RB, WR, and TE – with each player at those positions being tagged with a start/sit/FLEX designation and a predicted points total from NFL.com fantasy projections.
Let’s fly, Eagles Nation!
Quarterback
Jalen Hurts (21.56 projected fantasy points) :
Jalen Hurts should be able to take advantage of this Detroit Lions secondary in his first game with big expectations. With the addition of AJ Brown (who we will discuss later in the article), second year wideout, Devonta “The Slim Reaper” Smith, and Dallas Goedert – along with the running game, you can see why the sky is the limit for fantasy production and real-life expectations. START
Gardner Minshew (0.72 projected fantasy points) :
Gardner Minshew may be one of the best quality backup QBs in the NFL, but unless an injury occurs to Hurts or a blowout win/loss – he won’t see much of the field. SIT
Ian Book (0 projected fantasy points) :
As his last name implies, Book will be on the shelf barring a disaster at the QB position for the Philadelphia Eagles. SIT
Running Back
Miles Sanders (13.01 projected fantasy points) :
Miles Sanders is an enigma – when on the field and given the opportunity, but neither of which is a constant. We will give him the benefit of the doubt in week number one, but we will have to keep an eye on the RB usage/rotation until things fully play out. START
Kenneth Gainwell (6.63 projected fantasy points) :
Much like Miles above, Kenneth needs to stay available. He looks like he may have opportunity as the receiving back moving forward, as Miles hands have seemed to drop off in recent years. He may not have many yards on the ground, but should offer a decent showing through the air. If your options are limited, he could be a sneaky flex play. FLEX
Boston Scott (3.72 projected fantasy points) :
I don’t foresee much opportunity for the ever productive Scott to begin the season. I expect him to see a few touches, but nothing major. SIT
Trey Sermon (1.71 projected fantasy points) :
Same as Scott above, until he warrants the attention, he is a bench stash, at best. SIT
Wide Receiver
AJ Brown (18.32 projected fantasy points) :
We will finally be able to see AJ in meaningful game in midnight green – and boy do I think we’re in for a treat – with his YAC ability, physicality & the ability to be open, when covered, we will see why Howie paid the piper for his guy. We haven’t seen this type of WR in Philly since T.O. START
Devonta Smith (11.70 projected fantasy points) :
A much different receiver than his counterpart above, but The Slim Reaper aka Smitty, beats his opponents like a drum with his precision route running, decisive cuts, and speed. His hands are second to none, so I think he’s a start with the attention being on Brown to begin the season. START
Quez Watkins (7.15 projected fantasy points) :
We will have to keep our eye on Quez’s deployment, but I believe he’s the best available option in the slot. He’s quick in and out of breaks and can absolutely kill you in a foot race – too many mouths to feed in game one, I think we take a wait and see approach here. SIT
Zach Pascal (2.66 projected fantasy points) :
Zach should see redzone looks and could be in the field more than initially expected. Nick liked him in Indy and has hand-picked him to follow him to Philly. He could see some work in the middle of the field, but temper expectations. SIT
Tight End
Dallas Goedert (12.85 projected fantasy points) :
Dallas should be viewed as a must a start TE, unless you have Andrews, Kelce to be plugged in. He should see plenty of redzone targets and wear teams down between the hashes. I think a TD may be in his very near future. START
Jack Stoll (0.52 projected fantasy points) :
Philly likes to incorporate their TEs, but I don’t think Stoll will be much of an impact fantasy producer. SIT
Grant Calcaterra (0.61 projected fantasy points) :
I would bet that Grant sees more of the pushing work than Stoll, but not much to be counted on. Until he shows consistency in his ability and usage, he’s a bench stash. SIT
With the season right around the corner, let’s root our Eagles on and win these leagues. We will see you next week on edition number 2 of Fantasy Football – Fly Eagles Nation Edition. Much love and Fly Eagles Fly!
