Eagles’ Secondary: No Fly Zone

With the addition of Defensive Back, Ugo Amadi from the Seahawks for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, the Eagles’ Secondary becomes even more dangerous. Amadi adds versatility and depth to an already fantastic group. With the first real Cornerback duo in years, this group is ready to lock up opposing Wide Receiving corps.

Corner Backs

As stated before, the Eagles’ secondary has a corner duo to be proud of which is not something that could be said in years past. Darius Slay has been outstanding since he arrived in Philadelphia and just landed at 77 on the NFL’s Top 100 list. Notching a Pro-Bowl and three touchdowns in 2021, Slay is ready to turn it up even more with James Bradberry playing opposite of him. Bradberry came over from the New York Giants and has been one of the league’s best corners. Bradberry had a better season last season than his 2020 Pro Bowl year but became a cap-hit causality of New York.

Avonte Maddox will finally get his chance to shine. Injuries and weak depth made Maddox play as the outside corner for years. With the addition of Bradberry, Maddox will excel in the slot-corner role after years of lining up with the freakish athletes out wide. Last year, Maddox became the full-time starter and became very active in the tackling game notching 73 tackles and five tackles for loss. The Eagles’ secondary truly hones a three-headed monster at the corner position.

Safeties

While our corners will make the job easy for this group, there are still some things to look forward to in the safety position. Marcus Epps has been having a stellar camp and leading this safety group. The signing of Jasquiski Tartt provides a veteran presence and championship experience. Tartt was a solid piece to a Niners’ defense that was minutes away from a second Super Bowl trip in three seasons. Anthony Harris is looking to get back to his Vikings’ level play with Philadelphia and there is good reason to believe he will with the rotation of these three players.

K’Von Wallace could be on the fence about getting cut, but his potential kicking through would almost guarantee a spot on the roster. His versatility can also be a downfall as he can be good at many things, but not great at anything. His injury bug isn’t helping his case either. If K’Von Wallace can stay healthy, there is a good group of Safeties on our hands.

Final Thoughts

This group is very top-heavy and that is at the cornerback position. With the way the defensive line is constructed and the elite corner duo of Bradberry and Slay, this group can be special.
