Derrick Rose: Is It Over?

After being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday, Derrick Rose is currently a Free Agent. Once one of the best and most promising players in the league, has been a perennial third-string guard the last few seasons in the NBA. Will another team pick him up, or is Derrick Rose's storied career over?

Derrick Rose won the MVP award at 22, making him the youngest MVP in the history of the NBA. When he won the award in 2011, he was the best PG in the league and looked to be a superstar for many years. He led the Chicago Bulls to the 1 seed the following season until he tragically tore his ACL in the first round against the 76ers. He sat out the entire 2012/13 season before coming back the next season for just 10 games before another season-ending injury.

Rose never returned to his superstar-caliber form after these injuries. He was traded to the New York Knicks in 2015. He was the third option on offense, where he averaged a solid 18-4-4. After this though, he began to bounce around the association, playing in Cleveland, Minnesota, and Detroit. He then returned to the Knicks for a 3-year stint and spent last season in Memphis.

At age 35, Rose is unlikely to be an impactful player on the court for any team in the NBA. He certainly holds value as a locker-room presence, but is there a team that wants to use a roster spot on Rose at this stage of his career?

D-Rose may end up being the only NBA MVP to not make the Basketball Hall of Fame. It's a tragic story, one of the most exciting and talented guys in NBA history, has his career cut short by injury. Hopefully, Rose is picked up during the season and gets another chance to compete for an NBA Championship.
