Could This NFL Running Back Be The Next Breakout Star?

Every NFL season sees a bunch of unproven players who breakout and shine for their respective teams. For example, the Los Angeles Rams had a big year from 2022 5th-round pick Kyren Williams, who many had not heard of until this season. Alongside Williams, the Rams had a monster season out of Puka Nucua, who has been one of the best rookie wide receivers of all time. Other examples this season include Green Bay's Carrington Valentine, Pittsburgh's Jaylen Warren, Detroit's Sam LaPorta, and Philadelphia's Sydney Brown.

So who could be the next breakout star for the 2024 NFL season? A good choice would be running back Tyjae Spears of the Tennessee Titans.

Tyjae Spears Could Pick Up Where Derrick Henry Left Off

Spears was the 81st pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and had a solid year as a backup to superstar Derrick Henry. But Henry's contract will expire this off-season and he likely will play elsewhere in 2024. This could leave room for Spears to be the number one running back for Tennessee and potentially breakout next season. Spears has averaged over four yards-per-carry on only 97 rushing attempts for just over 400 total rushing yards. But he has shined in the receiving game especially on third-down adding 49 receptions for 344 yards.

While he has only accounted for one touchdown this season, he will see more chances to score if Henry is not in the backfield. He has potential to be great especially after he won ACC Offensive Player of the Year a few years ago at Tulane. Expect Tyjae Spears to have a breakout season in 2024 if Derrick Henry leaves the Titans.
