On Tuesday, Netflix produced a four-part Untold documentary on the 2005-2010 Florida Gators football team called Swamp Kings.
It goes behind the scenes on what head coach Urban Meyer and the rest of the Gators did to be able to claim two National Championships.
It brings back the good old days when the Gators were flying high, and the rest of college football was trying to catch them.
Florida's Coaches Since The End Of Meyer
Since Urban Meyer decided to step down as the head coach of Florida in 2010, the program has been different. They have gone through four different head coaches and even have had a handful of interim head coaches because the head man got fired mid-season.
In this period, Florida has not returned to the title or even qualified for the four-team college football playoff.
The Gators have claimed the SEC East three times but have failed to win the SEC title, losing to Alabama.
The Gators thought they found the guy to take them back to the promised land when they hired their former offensive coordinator and Mississippi State head coach, Dan Mullen, in 2018.
Mullen led the Gators to three New Year's Six Bowls in his first three seasons, but after a down 2021 year, the team decided to move on.
The Gators hired Louisiana Lafayette head coach Billy Napier, and his first season was not a good one. The Gators finished below .500, going 6-7, after losing to Oregon State 30-3 in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Could This Be The End For Napier?
The 2023 Gators's schedule is not easy, and Napier, who could be coaching for his job this season, better pull a rabbit out of his hat.
If this year's season doesn't go well for Napier, he could be out of a job very quickly.
If you learned anything from watching Swamp Kings, you would know The Swamp lives and dies with the Gators, and this team needs to get back to contending for titles.
There was something special about sitting down and watching Swamp Kings, and whether you are a Florida fan or not, you just had to think how cool it would be to see this team back to great heights.
Florida has great fans; they are some of the best in all of college football, and they deserve to be rocking in the Swamp on Saturday night against Tennessee.
If Napier shows he can't get the job done this season, the school might just cut ties with him and try to find someone who can bring that Urban Meyer coaching style back to Gainesville.
We need some meaningful Florida football again because those were some of the best times in the history of the sport.
