Could The Kansas City Chiefs Sign This Super Bowl Champion?
The Kansas City Chiefs have high expectations once again to compete for a Super Bowl. The team is looking to three-peat for the first time since the 1967 Green Bay Packers squad and has all the tools to be even better than last year’s championship team in 2024. With free agency and the draft behind us, it’s nearly time for training camp and the preseason.
Could the Chiefs look to add another piece to their electric offense? How about a former Super Bowl champion who was a fourth-overall pick after making first-team All-SEC in 2015? You might be thinking of Leonard Fournette.
Leonard Fournette Would Be A Nice Addition
Fournette was a first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2017 NFL Draft where he rushed for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns in thirteen games during his rookie season. He rushed for a career-high 1,152 yards and caught 76 passes for 522 yards in 2019 but was surprisingly cut for undrafted rookie James Robinson following the season.
Fournette was quickly signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. Despite a quiet regular season, he had 300 rushing yards and four total touchdowns (one in every game) in the postseason leading the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl championship.
Fournette spent the 2023 season with the Buffalo Bills where he didn’t see much playing time. Now, as a free agent, could signing with the Chiefs revive his career? He would compete with former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire for the backup running back spot behind Isaiah Pacheco and give Patrick Mahomes another option in the receiving game as well.
