Could An Undrafted Corner Make His First Start For The Eagles?

The Philadelphia Eagles opened their season on the road and came away with a 25-20 win over the New England Patriots in Week One. The game was closer than expected with plenty of positives and negatives to highlight. Unfortunately, two injuries were reported, which will impact the team on a short week as they host the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night.

One of the key injuries came at the cornerback position with James Bradberry entering the concussion protocol. Luckily, he should not be out for awhile, but the four days between games, likely means he won't suit up for the home opener. The former 2016 draft pick has played extremely well since coming to the Eagles as a free agent last season. Let's take a look at the rest of the Eagles cornerback depth.

Who Else Do The Eagles Have At Cornerback?

With James Bradberry likely out, the next man up is undrafted second-year player Josh Jobe. The former National Champion with Alabama in 2020 was a starter for two years as a junior and senior and played mostly on special teams as an NFL rookie last year. He impressed in training camp as his experience going against top SEC rivals just a few years ago gave him the edge.

Jobe played some snaps at the end of the Week One victory over the Patriots. He was targeted on the game sealing play that was ruled incomplete. Jobe had tight coverage on wide receiver Kayshon Boutte who could not keep his feet in-bounds.

With All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay and veteran slot corner Avonte Maddox lining up against the Vikings' best receivers, expect Jobe to be targeted early. He will likely be viewed as inexperienced, but he has passed each test that has been given to him so far in his young career. Jobe may see a lot of Minnesota's first-round pick Jordan Addison.

Since the Minnesota Vikings like to spread the ball around, other Eagles corners may get some action as well. These names include 2022 undrafted free agent Mario Goodrich, 2023 undrafted free agent Eli Ricks, and fourth-round pick Keelee Ringo. That's a lot of potential young talent the Eagles have.
