College Football Playoff Projected For 2024 By A Big-Time Media Analyst
It is finally here. The College Football Playoff is expanding to 12 teams this year, and Andy Staples from On3.com projected this year's field.
12. Boise State
The highest-ranked nonpower conference school gets into the playoff, and Boise State is in that spot. The Broncos were a great team in the mid-2000s, and they return to being relevant here.
11. Tennessee
Tennessee was close to making the College Football Playoff in 2022 but fell short. Now, they finally get in with their young quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, and they get the 11th seed, meaning they will have to go on the road in their first playoff game.
10. Ole Miss
Ole Miss had gotten better every single season under head coach Lane Kiffin, and why not again this year? They attacked the transfer portal this offseason, getting big-time players at almost every position and also bringing back their quarterback, Jaxson Dart, who will be one of the best quarterbacks in college this season.
9. Notre Dame
No conference, no bye for Notre Dame since they are not part of a conference; they can not get one of the first four byes, but it doesn't matter here. Notre Dame has the nine seed, but former Duke quarterback Riley Leonard is now under center for the Fighting Irish and should get them into a spot to make the playoffs.
8. Michigan
Michigan is coming off winning the title, but they lost starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy, head coach Jim Harbaugh, and many other important players and coaches, so the new players will have to step up. They do, and they find themselves as the eighth seed hosting Notre Dame.
7. Texas
Texas was a play away from going to the title game last season, but a move to the SEC this season gives them a harder schedule. They still have quarterback Quinn Ewers, but playing in the SEC each week is difficult. They will drop a few matchups but still finish as the seventh seed, playing Ole Miss.
6. Oregon
Oregon is heading to the Big Ten this season, and they got a very nice welcome gift, landing maybe the best quarterback in the transfer portal from Oklahoma, Dillon Gabriel. They still have one of the best coaches in the sport after rumors had him taking the Alabama job, Dan Lanning; the Ducks get to host Ohio State this season, so that could be a major game for seedings in the Big Ten and the playoffs.
5. Alabama
No, Nick Saban, there is no problem for the Crimson Tide. Alabama rolls in as the fifth seed in the playoff with new head coach Kalen DeBoer and hosts Boise State in a game they should win.
4. Kansas State
Kansas State gets the fourth seed here and a bye due to winning the Big 12. The Wildcats lost quarterback Will Howard to Ohio State, but Avery Johnson might be better than him and will take over the starting job this season. There is no reason Kansas State can't win the Big 12, and newcomer Utah could be the only team in the conference to give them a hard time.
3. Florida State
Florida State got snubbed from a playoff spot last year after going 13-0 in the regular season, but this year, they win the ACC again but make the playoff and get a bye into the second round.
2. Georgia
This is an easy one. Georgia has the best quarterback in Carson Beck and head coach Kirby Smart in the country, and there is no reason why they don't get a top-two seed in this year's playoff.
Ohio State has the best roster in the country but has question marks at quarterback and on the offensive line. If they can figure that all out, there is no reason why they can't win the title, and they are set to do it with the first seed.
