Cleveland Guardians Need To Wake Up; This Is Ridiculous

The Cleveland Guardians are 31-36 on the season and just 3.5 games out of first place in the A.L Central. The team has plenty of time to make up ground, so there should be no worry about that, but what is going on with some of the roster moves should be very concerning.

Myles Straw

The everyday center fielder Myles Straw has been completely lost at the plate for a year in a half now, and for some reason, he gets playing time every single day.

I understand he was a Gold Glove winner last season and is maybe the best defensive center fielder in the game, but his bat is terrible.

In 2022 Straw played in 152 games, batted .221, and had an OPS of .564, and so far, in 2023, he has played in 65 games, batting .231 with an OPS of .603.

He also has not hit a home run since the year 2021. I think it is harder in baseball today not to be able to hit a home run than to hit one.

There is no reason for Straw to be playing every day. The team can send out Steven Kwan, Will Brennan, and Gabriel Arias in their three outfield spots daily and let Straw occasionally come in for defensive purposes.

Mike Zunino

Let's talk about the catching situation now because this should be fun. During the offseason, the team signed catcher Mike Zunino to a 6-million-dollar contract, and has been the worst catcher I have ever seen.

For some reason, he is still on the roster as of June 15th, and every day he is on the registration, you can tell the Guardians are not serious about winning. Zunino can't hit the ball or field a ball, and when he tries to throw a runner out at second base, he throws the ball to center field.

To make matters worse, catching prospect Bo Naylor has been tearing it up in Triple-A this season, and the team wants nothing to do with him. They could be manipulating his service time, but he should've been called up weeks ago. We all know that the Guardian's ownership and front office don't want to bite the 6 million dollars they gave Zunino, so they will keep pushing this out.

The Guardians Don't Care About Winning

I can go on about other players, and one is even shortstop Amed Rosario who bats in the two-hole with a .233 average and plays some horrible defense. The team has young players like Tyler Freeman and Gabriel Arias sitting on the bench when they should be getting playing time.

They are very young, and sitting with them does nothing. The Guardians would never compete for the World Series in 2023, but they need to know who can be part of the future, and letting Freeman and Arias sit does nothing for this team.

The Guardians haven't won a World Series since 1948, and we all know the owner Paul Dolan is not serious about winning. The fans deserve better than this, and it's gotten to a point where many of them can't take it anymore, and I don't blame them.
