Cleveland Cavaliers Bring Back A Member Of Their 2016 NBA Finals Team On A 1-Year-Deal
The Cleveland Cavaliers had an interesting offseason. They made a head coaching move, firing J. B. Bickerstaff and hiring former Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson as the next man in charge.
Cleveland has hardly made any roster moves this offseason, and there were rumors that they would either trade point guard Darius Garland or center Jarrett Allen. Still, neither of those happened, and the team gave Allen a contract extension.
The Cavs have an excellent frontcourt with Allen and Evan Mobley, but they still needed some depth to back up both players.
Mobley and Allen have both battled a fair share of injuries. Last season, Mobley missed a good amount of the season, and Allen got hurt in the playoffs, which ended his year.
Cleveland got the backcourt help they needed on Friday when they brought back center Tristan Thompson on a one-year deal.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, "Free agent C Tristan Thompson is finalizing a one-year deal to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers; sources tell ESPN. Thompson has played 10 of his 13 seasons with the Cavs. President Koby Altman and Klutch CEO Rich Paul are finishing up an agreement."
Thompson returned to the Cavs last season after leaving the organization in 2020.
The 33-year-old center was drafted by Cleveland in the first round of the NBA Draft in 2011 and spent his first nine seasons there, where he was among the most prominent members of the 2016 title team.
Thompson was of the the main reason the Cavs came back from three games to one against the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 finals, and it's nice to see Thompson come back to Cleveland for another season.
