Cleveland Browns Trade For Former First-Rounder
The Cleveland Browns have a very important off-season ahead. Alongside managing the team's salary cap, general Andrew Berry is tasked with improving a team that had one of the league's best defenses and finished 11-6 with a playoff loss in the Wildcard Round. After exploring the wide receiver market, Berry has made the first move of the off-season. The Cleveland Browns are trading for Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.
Browns Upgrade Receiving Room With Jerry Jeudy
The Browns have traded a 2024 fifth-round and 2024 sixth-round pick to Denver in exchange for Jerry Jeudy. The 24-year-old was the 15th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. One of the most hyped prospects in the draft, the Alabama star was the second wide receiver taken after back-to-back 1,000+ yard campaigns with the Crimson Tide.
Unfortunately, the receiver has not lived up to his expectations. He has failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark in four seasons in Denver with a career-high 972 yards in the 2022 season. This was followed this past season with only 758 receiving yards in 16 games and only two touchdowns. He also had a 62.1% catch rate, which was one of the lowest out of all qualified receivers.
A Fresh Start Could Help Jeudy Live Up To Expectations
Now Jeudy will get a fresh start in Cleveland. The Browns only gave up two late-round picks, which is a safer move for Andrew Berry compared to last year's trade for receiver Elijah Moore, which cost a second-round pick. The Browns have now formed a Big Three in wide receivers Amari Cooper, who led the team with 1,250 yards, Moore, who had 640 yards, and now Jeudy.
The 24-year-old has one more year on his contract, which should motivate him to have a big season to cash in a big contract. If he did not perform to the Browns' standard, he could be let go, and it would not have been a big investment.
As the Browns look to make it to the playoffs again, Jeudy will help give quarterback Deshaun Watson and whoever else may play in the upcoming season a lot of help with the hopes of the team having a top-ten offense and defense. It will be interesting to see how this move will affect the team and whether it could help the Browns chase their first Super Bowl appearance.
