Cleveland Browns Release Defensive Player After Being Arrested For A DUI On Wednesday Night

The offseason is supposed to be a simple time for NFL teams and players, but the Cleveland Browns got into trouble with one of their players on Wednesday night.

Defensive End Lonnie Phelps was arrested on Wednesday in Key West, Florida, for crashing his car into the side of a restaurant and was arrested for DUI, accroding to TMZ.

Phelps joined the Browns last season after being undrafted out of Kansas and didn't appear in any games for the team. Still, he has signed a futures contract this offseason and was supposed to battle for a spot on the 53-man roster during training camp, but on Thursday, the Browns parted ways with Phelps after his DUI, and they are sending the message that they will not put up with anything this season.

Cleveland is trying to get back to the playoffs for a second straight year, and they don't want anything to go wrong on the field that could keep them from reaching their goal, so if you act up, you will be gone.

Phelps would probably not make the team anyway, but it was an excellent message to send to the rest of the team.
