Chiefs Land In Hollywood With This Free Agent Signing

The Kansas City Chiefs waited for the perfect time to make a splash in free agency and now they are on the board. As of Wednesday evening, the Chiefs signed Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a one-year deal for $7 million but is worth up to $11 million. The Chiefs land a quality free agent wide receiver and Hollywood has a chance to start fresh in KC.

Why Hollywood Makes Sense For Chiefs

As I said before, the Chiefs have landed a quality free agent. The Chiefs led the NFL in drops last season and this signing addresses that issue. Brown, 26, is entering his sixth season in the NFL. In the previous five seasons, Brown has a drop rate of 3.6% along side 3,644 receiving yards, 28 touchdowns, and an average of 11.6 yards per catch.

While Brown is coming off one of his worst statistical seasons in 2023, his quarterback play was not stellar. Brown finished with 574 yards and four touchdowns for the Cardinals last year but that should not be cause for concern. Brown is a speedy receiver that brings back the deep threat for Mahomes and addresses the 2.6 drops per game problem of last season.

Brown needs a pass heavy offense and KC is just that. While with the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals, Brown played on offenses with 51% and 54% pass rates. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have finished as the best in the league every season since 2019, with a whopping 64% pass rate in 2023.

Chiefs Get A Steal Contract Wise

The L'Jarius Sneed situation seemed to be the top priority for Kansas City. Trading Sneed for picks or even possibly retaining him seemed to be the next move before the Chiefs attacked the free agent market. However, the Chiefs now land Brown on a deal similar to Marquez Valdez-Scantlings at least "per year".

The wide receiver market has not been super over priced so far so Browns deal is even better. Fellow receivers Darnell Mooney and Gabe Davis both received deals of three-years and nearly $40 million. Brown is arguably on their level or higher but the Chiefs get him for significantly less.

Final Thoughts

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row. Every offseason Brett Veach and company gear up for another run at the Lombardi. When the Chiefs lost to Tampa in Super Bowl 55, they bolstered their offensive line to protect Mahomes and not lose a step in the NFL race. Now, the Chiefs are making moves to maintain they are either winning or losing in the Super Bowl, nothing less.

Hollywood Brown will surely keep the back-to-back champs atop the NFL totem pole by becoming a coveted target in this Chiefs offense. One final thing, Andy Reid is one hell of a recruiter.
