Chiefs Can Match A Historic Dynasty In 2022
Looking ahead to 2022, the Chiefs have a chance to match one of the NFL’s all-time great dynasties. Will they make history?
Talk of a Chiefs dynasty can rage on for years. To silence the critics, the team needs to win another Super Bowl. However, when it’s all said and done the team’s sustained success will speak for itself in the history books of the NFL. Winning is what matters most in football, and although winning a Super Bowl is the mountain top, sustained regular-season success matters too.
The league’s most dominant dynasties — the Steelers of the ’70s, 49ers of the ’80s, Cowboys of the ’90s, and Patriots of the ’00s — all went on dominant playoff streaks and won multiple Super Bowls en route to the NFL history books.
Putting Kansas City in the same conversation as those historic runs isn’t as far-fetched as some might think. The team has hosted four consecutive AFC Championship games — a feat that’s never been accomplished before. They’ve been to back-to-back Super Bowls and won their first in 50 years. However, another impressive streak could be extended in 2022 which would further cement the team’s place among those NFL all-time great dynasties.

If Chiefs Make The Playoffs In 2022, It Would Make Eight Straight
The Chiefs have made the postseason in seven consecutive seasons from 2015 to now. The streak is the longest active streak in the NFL. The Packers, Bills, and Titans are second with three consecutive seasons in the playoffs.
When comparing the team’s current streak with the longest streaks of all time, it’s clear to see how they can add their claim to history with another playoff berth next season:

With a playoff appearance, next season Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid would match the Montana-led 49ers with eight straight. They’d also be tied with the Steel Curtain dynasty of the ’70s. Regardless of how many Super Bowls these Chiefs go on to win, their mark on the history books would be made. Sustained success isn’t easy to find in the NFL, as seen by the teams in the table above, but Kansas City has found it.
The teams above would make up any list of the best teams in NFL history. Among them are the Brady-led Patriots, Manning-led Colts, and Rodgers-led Packers. Patrick Mahomes is growing his legacy to match that of those all-time greats and he’s still just 26 years old. Can the Chiefs make the playoffs in 2022? Time will tell.
Much can happen and injuries happen. The only thing preventing the Patriots from owning a record 17 consecutive playoff appearances is an injury to Tom Brady in 2008. Right now the most important thing for the Chiefs isn’t to focus on history; instead, it is to focus on getting healthy for the 2022 season and setting their sights on winning their second Super Bowl in the Mahomes Era.
For the fans, it’s important to recognize and appreciate greatness when it’s happening. This is truly the Golden era of the Kansas City Chiefs.
