Chicago Retains A Key Building Block On The Defense

After two days of being placed on the franchise tag, the Chicago Bears have reached an agreement with All-Pro cornerback Jaylon Johnson. The deal comes out to be a four-year, $76 million deal in which Johnson will be making $19 million per year. This makes Johnson one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league.

Most of the money in the contract will come within the first three years, including $54 million guaranteed, which makes Johnson the sixth highest-paid cornerback in the league. Johnson can potentially hit the market again at the age of 28.

A Great Season In Chicago

While this was Jaylon Johnson's first season as an elite lockdown cornerback, he deserves to be paid. He was nothing short of phenomenal for the Bears this season. He only allowed 195 yards and one touchdown and had a 33.3 passing rating when targeted.

Johnson will be needed by a Bears organization striving to build a perennial playoff contender. The organization needs its lockdown corner in a division with Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jordan Addison.
