CeeDee Lamb Must Step Up For Dallas

A lot has been made about the up-and-down ride that has been the Dallas Cowboys offense with most of the blame being put on Cooper Rush starting at quarterback in place of Dak Prescott. Questions have swirled around the receivers with all eyes being on CeeDee Lamb to step up and be the number one receiver.

There isn’t any question that CeeDee Lamb has been the number one target for this offense this season as he leads the team in every receiving category. Lamb has recorded 33 catches for 409 yards and two touchdowns in six games this season. He has been targeted more times than any receiver on the team with 60.

Target share leaders over the last four weeks CeeDee Lamb – 34.9% Mark Andrews – 34.2% Darnell Mooney – 33.7% Drake London – 32.0% Davante Adams – 30.3% Tyreek Hill -30.3% Robert Woods – 30.0% Cooper Kupp – 29.7% Marquise Brown – 29.4% DK Metcalf – 29.4% — TJ Hernandez (@TJHernandez) October 18, 2022

Cooper Rush has leaned on CeeDee Lamb and Noah Brown heavily during the last five games as they contribute to more than 50% of the targets. Both have led the team in receiving yards in each of the six games with Brown being the top receiver the first two weeks and Lamb leading in yards in each of the last four games. Both guys have come up with big plays that have helped the team with Lamb catching critical fourth-quarter touchdowns against the New York Giants and Washington Commanders.

The last two games have not been as pleasant for CeeDee Lamb as he has only recorded 121 receiving yards total. Part of the problem with the receivers struggling is Rush hasn’t thrown for over 200 yards in either of the last two games. Under the circumstances, Lamb has been the only real bright spot in the passing game in recent games.

No More Excuses For CeeDee Lamb With Dak Prescott Returning

Great news for CeeDee Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys offense is all signs point toward Dak Prescott returning to the starting lineup this Sunday against the Detroit Lions. This bolds well for Lamb as it will mean the offense will increase their passing plays. Receivers like Lamb, Brown, and Michael Gallup will now be asked to do more than what they have been in the first third of the season.

When Amari Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the offseason, the Cowboys looked at Lamb to be the number one guy for them. Questions arose after the first game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he didn’t play well. Rush came in and had instant chemistry with Lamb as Rush trusted Lamb to make all the catches.

Dallas has seen Gallup struggle getting back into rhythm recovering from his ACL injury from last season and Dalton Schultz is fighting through his knee injury. Outside of Brown, no other pass catchers have been supporting Lamb. It’s easy to see why Lamb is by far the most targeted receiver on the Dallas Cowboys roster.

CeeDee Lamb has been really solid this season as he appears to have the potential to be a number-one receiver. Lamb is a good route runner and has big play potential. He’s got sure hands and has a nose for getting those extra yards to make a first down. On one on one coverage, any quarterback can trust him to use his vertical to grab the ball despite being six foot two inches.

Prescott is in line to be back which means he will be looking at his receivers to make plays as he adjusts to being back on the field. This is CeeDee Lamb’s opportunity to come up big against a weak Detroit Lions secondary to have a big day. The games of being under 100 yards need to be over for Lamb as now the Cowboys’ offense will be airing it out. Lamb should be the recipient of multiple catches for big yards, but he has to be the one making the plays for Prescott.
