Carolina Panthers Defensive Star Out For Season
It has been a really bad few days for the Carolina Panthers. They just got dominated by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday losing 47-10. It was just a total embarrassment for Carolina, and it's just Week 1. Not one day later, Carolina got more bad news and it involved their best defensive lineman: Derrick Brown.
Derrick Brown in the season opener against the New Orleans Saints suffered a knee injury. It was a big blow to Carolina's defense as he is the best player on that core not named Shaq Thompson. Their run defense and pass rush got worse as a result of Brown's injury, which isn't surprising, as Brown has demonstrated the ability to successfully rush the passer, deflect (and even intercept) passes, and make clean tackles in the run game.
It was panic time when Panthers fans heard of Brown's injury, but now the panic is a reality. Derrick Brown has now been placed on injured reserve. With how terrible Carolina was in Week 1, his season is likely over as a result.
This is a tremendous loss for the Panthers as Brown was one of the best players on this roster overall. Without him, the team got weaker as a whole. He was their leader on the defensive line and with how bad Carolina played, it's going to be a long season for them.
Derrick Brown in the offseason signed a 4 year, 96-million-dollar contract where 63 million dollars are guaranteed. Brown was a Pro Bowler in 2023 and had career highs through the team. Now the Panthers are going to have a defensive line led by A'Shawn Robinson and Shy Tuttle. It will be interesting to see this defense without Derrick Brown and how the team responds to the embarrassing performance in Week 1.
