Bold Predictions For The Bills In 2023

As the 2023 NFL season is set to begin, let's get into some bold predictions regarding the Buffalo Bills. Their season opener will be on Monday September 11th at 8:15, against the New York Jets at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.

JOSH ALLEN WILL LEAD THE LEAGUE IN TOTAL YARDS

In 2022, Josh Allen was second to only Patrick Mahomes (5,608) in total yards for the season with 5,045. This included 4,283 passing yards and 762 yards rushing on the ground. With more weapons on the team earning Allen's targets, I predict that the rushing yards will go down. With more reliable options downfield, we can expect the Bills to dip even further into their pass heavy offense. This will be the first season Josh Allen goes over 5,000 yards passing, finishing with 5,134 yards (302/game). With more passing volume, Josh will have less than 30 rushing yards per game, ending the season with 493 rushing yards. I expect Allen to lead the league, ending the season with 5,627 total yards.

THE BILLS WILL HAVE TWO PLAYERS END THE SEASON WITH 10+ SACKS

The Bills have yet to have a player reach double digit sacks under the Sean McDermott era. Jordan Phillips got closest to this mark, registering 9.5 sacks during his first stint with the Bills in 2019. Last season both Von Miller and Greg Rousseau tallied 8 sacks each, however both players missed games.

Groot has shown major flashes over his first two seasons with the team and seems prepared to take the next step on this defense. With his freak physicality, Rousseau will prove to everyone why he was worth drafting in the first round and have a major breakout season. Von is still expected to miss at least four games this season since being placed on the PUP list, however I expect him to come back at full strength and also record at least 10 sacks. Playing on the opposite side of Rousseau with a newly upgraded group along the defensive line will allow Miller to tear through offensive lines when he's back and ready to go.

DALTON KINCAID WILL BE SECOND ON THE TEAM IN TD RECEPTIONS BEHIND DIGGS

Drafting a new tight end in the first round seemed like a high risk for Brandon Beane with the large amount of money they invested in a contract to Dawson Knox. With less running production from Josh Allen and relying on the passing game more, I expect the Bills to have passing touchdowns to go around this season. Behind the obvious Stefon Diggs, I predict that Dalton Kincaid will score the second most touchdowns on the team.

Though Allen hasn't necessarily targeted TEs too often so far in his career, I think that all changes with Kincaid. Not including the inevitable added targets for the new rookie TE, Kincaid is a large target with elite hand skills. He has a knack for making tough catches and will look to earn them in the red zone this coming season.

THE BILLS WILL MALE THEIR FIFTH SUPERBOWL APPEARANCE

Following a disappointing four straight losses in the Superbowl during the 90s, the Bills fell into a drought that would haunt them for 17 years. The addition of Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane broke the drought back in 2018. The eventual introduction of Josh Allen made them bona-fide perennial contenders.

There seems to be an idea floating around social media that the Bills have taken a step back and have fallen out of contention. The Bills will continue to be major players in the AFC after making big changes to the team during the offseason. New rookies such as TE Kincaid and RG Torrence will keep the offense explosive and help keep Josh Allen safe in the pocket. They've also made changes to the defense, adding to their defensive line with players like Leonard Floyd and Poona Ford. The biggest factor to the teams success will come from their health. After multiple players faced season ending injuries last year, the team stayed the course but was inevitably unable to move forward. Players like Micah Hyde and Von Miller eventually returning will add a huge boost to the teams defense and help achieve their goals.

The Bills have fallen short of their goal to reach a Superbowl so far under McDermott, but that curse will be lifted during the 2023 season. The city of Buffalo will finally have their opportunity to get back to greatness when the team makes their fifth Superbowl appearance. Decades of supporting this team will be paid back when Josh Allen hoists the Lombardi trophy at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada. This team has been building for years and will finally put it all together and reach the pinnacle of the NFL. Josh Allen will be the first Quarterback to lead the Bills to a Superbowl win.
