Bold NFL Predictions For 2022 Season: Part Two
Ricky Watson continues his bold NFL predictions for the 2022 season. This article is the conclusion of part one of his two-part series of bold 2022 NFL predictions.
Rookie Stars and Subpars
Determining which rookie will have a good year and which ones won’t is my favorite of all predictions I make every year. I don’t like to consider anyone a bust in the NFL until they’ve played for three seasons. So, for the sake of this article, I will say those players who won’t do as well as expected during their rookie season will be considered subpar. Those draft picks that will have stellar seasons will be stars.
NFL Predictions For 2022: Part Two
With that said, my prediction for draft pick stars in no certain order will be Erik Ezukanma, WR, Miami Dolphins; Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets; George Pickens, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers; Marcus Jones, CB, New England Patriots, Brian Robinson, Jr., RB, Washington Commanders; Rachaad White, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Aidan Hutchinson, DE, Detroit Lions; Micheal Clemons, DT, New York Jets; Evan Neal, OL, New York Giants; Derek Stingley, CB, Houston Texans; Abraham Lucas, OL, Seattle Seahawks.
My predictions for subpars in no certain order will be Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, CB, New York Jets; Treylon Burks, WR, Tennessee Titans; Drake London, WR, Atlanta Falcons; Chris Olave, WR, Skyy Moore, WR, Kansas City Chiefs; New Orleans Saints; Breece Hall, RB, New York Jets; Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, New York Giants, Desmond Ridder (if starts), QB, Atlanta Falcons.
Jaylen Waddle And Tyreek Hill Will Be The Best Receiving Duo
In the 2021 off-season, every Tennessee Titans fan believed Julio Jones and AJ Brown would be the best receiving duo in the history of the team’s organization. That didn’t happen. However, that should happen for the Miami Dolphins in 2022. The Dolphins are poised to have the fastest and best wide receiver duo for 2021 with Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. Both receivers will have over 1,000 yards and will combine to have the most yards after catch totals of any NFL receiving duo in 2022. Additionally, there should be no less than a combined total of 17 touchdowns between both of them.
There Will Be Quarterback Surprises This Year
This year will be a year of quarterback digression for some quarterbacks. Before everyone complains about my predictions, understand when I say digress, I’m meaning that they won’t be as good as they were last season. That does not mean that they won’t be good. It just means that their stats will be less than they were the previous year. I’m predicting that those who won’t have stats as good as the 2021 season will be Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, and Aaron Rodgers.
Quarterbacks that will improve on their stats from the 2021 season will be Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones, Jalen Hurts, Davis Mills, Kyler Murry, and Tua Tagovailoa.
Micah Parsons Will Be NFL’s Sack Leader
The Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award and he’s not slowing down in 2021. Expect him to be the leader in sacks for the NFL in 2022.
AFC West Will Not Be Best Division In Football
It may sound strange, but the AFC West won’t be the best division in football, not because they are bad but because yes, they are good. Analysts’ predictions are the AFC West will be the best division in football in 2021. But the win-loss records for the teams in that division may be less than expected. That’s because they play each other. Each division in the NFL plays six division games each season. When the AFC West does it, they will beat up on each other. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if the AFC West teams go either 3-3 or 2-4 in their division, with the Kansas City Chiefs being on top.
Miami Dolphins Will Have The Best NFL Defense In 2022
If the NFL is still a passing league, then the Miami Dolphins have two of the best players in NFL secondaries. Cornerback Xavien Howard has already led the NFL in two different seasons with the most interceptions and has the most interceptions among any player in the past five years with 27. According to PFF, Howard was the highest graded press coverage cornerback in the NFL in 2021 with a grade of 87.3.
Among safety rookies last season, Jevon Holland was tied third with six other players with two interceptions, second with two and a half sacks, third with 69 combined tackles, and led the NFL among all defensive backs with three fumble recoveries.
The Dolphins were tied for fifth with the most sacks in the NFL in 2021 with 48. They were tied for eighth in interceptions, and second in fumble recoveries. With the addition of veteran linebacker Melvin Ingram and rookie linebacker Channing Tindall to a defensive front that already has Jaelan Phillips, Christian Wilkins, and Emanuel Ogbah, nobody should expect nothing less than this to be a top tier defense for the 2022 season.
Daniel Carlson Will Have The Best Field Goal Percentage In 2022
If Las Vegas kicker Daniel Carlson’s college career at Auburn translates to the NFL, then expect him to take over Justin Tucker’s spot as the NFL’s top kicker. Last season, Carlson led the NFL with most field goals made with 40 out of 43. This season, I expect him to lead the NFL in completion percentage.
Joe Burrow Will Win MVP
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow helped lead his team to the Super Bowl last season. He finished with good numbers, leading the NFL with a 70.4% completion percentage. If his stats improve from last season, I’m anticipating Burrow to receive his first NFL MVP Award.
