Ben Roethlisberger Made Some Very Interesting Comments

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was on his podcast Footbahlin With Ben Roethlisberger and made a very interesting comment.

He had current Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett on, and he had this to say about Pickett replacing him

Ben Roethlisberger Didn’t Want To Be Replaced

“I’ll be completely honest. And I’ll be super transparent. I’m gonna get blasted,” Roethlisberger said. “I probably shouldn’t say this. But, I mean, who cares at this point? I wouldn’t say that I wanted Kenny to necessarily fail. But when someone comes to replace you and you’re like, I still feel like I had it, I hope he doesn’t come ball out. Because then it’s like, ‘Ben who?’

Ben Roethlisberger openly admitted to Kenny Pickett that he initially didn't want to see him succeed in Pittsburgh. "That's the selfishness of me. I feel bad for it…. I think you are the future of this team. I'm excited for you." (via Channel Seven YT)pic.twitter.com/fcByqeWuQ5 — Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) May 22, 2023

Ben Roethlisberger also stated that it was selfish of him to think that way and that he wants Pickett to ball out in Pittsburgh.

You can knock Roethlisberger all you want for not wanting his replacement to succeed but at the end of the day, we all think like this.

You never want to be replaced in life and when someone takes your spot in something the first thing you want is for them to not outperform you in the role.

Roethlisberger led the Steelers to the playoffs in his last season and then ended up retiring after it seemed like he and the team were ready to part ways.

Roethlisberger thought he had more left in the tank, but he never got to show it. If I had more left in the tank and I couldn’t show it, I would of course be mad and not want the person that took my spot to succeed.

It is a very human thing to feel, and Roethlisberger showed us he is human like the rest of us. It is very neat that he even brought up how he felt about Pickett when so many others would never do that.

I have a huge amount of respect for Roethlisberger after this podcast, and I know he can’t wait to see Pickett succeed now.
